I have followed this thread with moderate interest. I can't help but think a well planned and executed exhaust system shouldn't have fundamental heat issues. Wrapping is just transferring problems. Least of which is poor planning.

An oversized dump with the turbine heat shield removed? well ok, a little in the unlikely basket that one but lower bay temps always benifit internal combustion. I'd be all for keeping the temps down.

Re wrapping the whole system I think there is a gain to be had? (citing karting and rules against ceramic coatings) though the way it works I couldn't explain to you

Just remember that heat all has to go somewhere. So while the dump maybe cooler further down the line the heat there will be exponentially higher

I was at a shop called Tokyo Motorsport in Perth other week where we dynod by drag bike.

They specialise is Mitsubishi Evo's.

On the hoist was an evo with a wrapped dump pipe.

Remembering this thread I asked if they have any issues with cracking.

The mechanic told me he hadn't heard of any, but because the piping runs directly under the sump (being an east/west), they see as much as a 10 degree reduction in oil temp.

That seemed a lot to me but they should know their biccies.

Also, I believe transferring the heat down the line with wrap or ceramic coating will help keep exhaust gas temps up as they reach the rear of the car, also keeping the gas speed up, helping power.
