Speedo & Tacho - Falcon XR6 Vs Commodore SS?

I dont like the retro look of the SS instrument cluster.

I agree with Zeke. "Looks better", and "looks clearer" are two completely different things.

The XR dash looks so much better, especially at night. It might not be quite as clearly laid out as the SS, but IMO it's still quite good.

I agree, you can't just compare the dials. They are of course only part of the overall asthetics and practicality of the drivers possy. No offence ,but no vote from me as I believe that that whole ergonomics of the cabin need to be compared so as to provide an overall context.

SS looks very cheap all through the interior. the dash is no exception. I don't like how it has V8 written on there either. Also blue backlighting is far classier than cheap looking green moblie phone style lighting like the SS has.

Id rather see 4 photos, all high quality:

1) Both systems in daytime, without the ignition turned on (the 2 photos posted are WAY too different. Quality, scope (SS one is only part of the dash!), situation (SS is ignition off, XR is with all the lights on during the startup check). Impossible to make a fair comparison based on these photos.

2) Id like to see both at night.

Have to say, the SS one (which Ive seen in the flesh so can fairly comment) looks like the dash on a 50cc scooter.

And just to ensure you dont get it confused, they even write "V8" on the speedo!

I wonder if the temp guage has "Grunty Power" written on it?

yuck.. the same greeny/blue that the old XF Falcon had on the dash at night... the blue in the BA is way better.

I like the ss dash cluster better in the day, but the ba sh!ts all over it at night.

During the day - 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. I like the XR dash, but if my pride and joy were an SS, I would equally like it...they both do the job.

At night, it's no competition...

From memory, when looking for my new car I did look at the VY, the tacho/speedo etc is actually smaller than the XR so I don't think it is as clear, especially when in person.

I do prefer the way the numbers are aranged on the SS. I think having the all upright is good. Besides this minor issue I feel that the XR is far superior in all other aspects.
