I just bought an 04 xr6t auto and driving it normal this morning as in no hard launches or anything, when I would take my foot off the accelerator there was a noticeable whining noise coming from the engine which I havnt heard in the last 3 days of owning it... is this normal?

V8 super car gearbox fitted ? : D

Seriously though, Just on deceleration ? Under load or permanently ?

Could be a pulley, bearing..

Listen under bonnet while idling, see if you can locate it .

When I got to work I tryed to hear while idling but it was definitely just on deceleration.. and it wasnt permanent just noticed it when I was cruising at 100 mostly... I was thinking is that just the turbo wanting to go coz its sitting at higher revs?

Check oil screen filter for crap but its hard to diagnose stuff over the net, especially without hearing the sound...diff whine, metal on metal through buggered bush, electrical whine, turbo bearing whine.....all different....

My mate seems to think it could be injectors or fuel pump... but then wouldnt the issues show more severe signs like trouble starting? But that was more picking on the way it boosts...

Injectors don't whine and pumps will whine at a constant , not when backing off.
