Ok im going to order these this week, which do you think would be better for the rear of a bf ute, 10in 38 offset or 9.5in 45 offset?

10 +38 is better on ute, 9.5+45 will sit in a sh*t load!

Can you explain soft offset ?

Offset is the measurement from the centre of the wheel to where it mounts to the hub. So on a zero offset wheel the face of where the wheel meets the hub will be smack bang in the middle of the wheel, +36 is standard on falcon wheels so that means that face is 36mm towards the outside off the wheel. If you treat 17x8 +36 as the factory then you can work out from there. So +40 will put the face 4mm further out towards the wheel face meaning the wheel will sit 4mm further in overall. Then obviously a +30 will send it back the other way 10mm (from +40). But when thinking offsets you need to consider that changing wheel diameters will affect the offset you choose.

So to give an example. Many people use 20x10 +40 on the rear. If you wanted a 20x9.5 you could use +40 and have 6.5ish mm less either side of the rim. If you wanted to have it more flush to match the 20x10 you would go about +34 and would sit exactly the same distance out at the guard but give you much more clearance inside.

Does that make sense?

What about 18x8.5 +22 and 18x9.5 + 22 then ?

Doesn't matter at all.

Park your car in the garage and put a big square or spirit level from the floor to the guards. Will give you a good indication of the gap to the top of the rim.

Those offsets will have your front rim 20.5mm closer to the guard and the rear 33mm closer to the guard.

Your front rim will be further from your suspension and your rear will be 5mm closer to the suspension

Last question then I order..

F: 18 x 8.5 +30

R: 18 x 10.5 +15

probably best to ask one of the wheel whores or someone with an FG ute.

Rears would be very aggressive (opposite of soft) if you choose those rears then go the 8.5 =22 fronts, not +30.

It seems that none of the japanese rims will give a good fitment. It looks like it's just going to be easier to go for the good old TSW's Interlagos. I really wanted Enkei or Volks but no one not even the retailers can give a clear answer. Shame
