a bent valve would have shown straight away as a miss fire and low comp

A bent valve yes, but maybe damage enough to start a fatigue crack.

Valves are not designed to make contact with the pistons and this has obviously happened. Not sure if I should remove any valves from the cylinder head to see if there is a slight bend on them or if I should get prehaps a third party to investigate?

Should I clear up that I had a mechanic pull the head off today just happens that I helped him in his workshop.

Have asked my mechanic to write a report but it's pretty obvious that the valves made contact some time ago. Spoke with Head exchange to see if they could disassemble the rest of the head to look for more bent valves or strange wear patterns they said I need to get the Motor trade association to do the report as they have more clout and will be willing to go to court.

Nuford called me before lunch to say that they still are waiting on a reply from Ford so I guess I'll just wait and see.

Great photo. It appears to be fatigue. You need to check ALL the valves. Can you get a closer photo of the valve stem fracture face.
