Rear Mud Flap Removal, Warranty?

Featured Replies

#1

Howdy guys

Just removed the mud flaps on my new purchase, fg f6 ute, noticed scratches from where the mud flaps have rubbed/wore down paint work

Thought I had read somewhere people had this same issue and had it fixed under warranty?

Any pointers would be appreciated

Cheers

If the marks are down to the metel it wont buff out. You can only polish the clear coat layer of the paint. If the flaps rub through that, its going to need new paint. Put it this way you cars will ge

  • I'm somewhat disappointed Skywalker hasn't been in this thread asking you how to tell when it's rubbed through to the undercoat.

They just called and approved the claim. Goes in next week. If they f*ck it up they can do it again.

I had my ute fixed under warranty. Fortunately both sides were the same so help prove my case. I beleive its fairly well documented. How old is the ute?

Ok thanks- not sure if its worth the time and effort of them taking the ute- im assuming they just do a respray? I love the look of the mud flaps off though

Its a 2010 model it has warranty left until end of July

thanks mate for the reply

Yeah its a full respray of the sides of the tub unless they can polish the marks out. But a 3yr old car the rubs are going to be quite significant. You are entitled to the work to be covered under warranty but it is alot of work to get it all done.

Yep me and the old man had a good crack at some polish today, looks alot better but still very evident, so mud flaps went back on

Your right, it does sound like alot of work, how long was your turn around?

I got the same issue, and the marks are deep. Just weighing up if it's worth it or not.

Took them off after 6 years, down to metal in spots. Not sure it'll buff out.

If the marks are down to the metel it wont buff out. You can only polish the clear coat layer of the paint. If the flaps rub through that, its going to need new paint. Put it this way you cars will generally have around 50-80 microns of Clear Coat that's makes your colour coat nice and glossy. that's not even as thick as a peice of paper.

You will need to leave the car at a panel shop for the work to be completed so it will probably a 3 days turn around. Just be mindful of who gets used. Ford will likely advise the dealership to get some quotes from local shops and pick the cheapest. My ute was fine, but had some rust repaired on my Ranger and the panel shop did a crap job.

Lol I wasn't serious man. It's like the crash pics with "It'll buff out" comments

I already used my touch up brush on it :)

Thanks fellas

Hmm now just to decide whether its worth the effort/risk (would hate for the re-spray to be slightly off color or something)
