Hey guys ive just bought a 2013 xr6t ute, found it was super quiet cant really hear the turbo spool, all I want to do is get a bit of noise from the turb, Ive rang a heap of dealers and they all reckon that any mods to the vehicle what so ever will void warrenty, only allowed to do cat back exhaust, I wanted to maybe install a SS growler intake or similar to get some noise, any suggestions

they are telling you the truth, but it's not the dealers that make the decision it's Ford.

Isn't it the dealer Mick? Because I've heard of some dealers still covering warranty with mods like intake, catback etc but others say anything and warranty gone

Or are these 'nicer' dealers just willing to wear the costs personally rather than passing it onto ford in order to keep the customer happy?

no it's ford, some dealers may turn a blind eye to some mods to keep money coming in, but if you took your modded car back to the dealer because they say your mods are ok, and you have a major warranty claim, ford come out and find the car is modded, they will wipe your warranty despite what the delear has said re your mods

Exactly what ratter said, we as a dealer are instructed by ford to report every mod on every car (which we dont do generally). If you have a few mods and a common fault occurs generally most dealers will oblige as ford does not know its modified.

However if you clearly have enough mods to require a tune and an engine/gbox let go, ford will send someone out with their oracle computer, read how many times its been flashed compared to its warranty history and bye bye warranty.

I generally look after people as much as I can but if theres a chance it will come back on us that's where my discretion ends.

In short the dealer does have discretion but ford hold the warranty and have the final say. If we lie to them we lose out big time and that's not on.

What if the Ford used car dealer sold you a car that was tuned but still under warranty? Happened to me. I didn't know it was tuned until it went up on the dyno. This was tune only, no other mods. They either didn't know or didn't disclose it to me.

Ford do not cover used car warranty unless it is still in the original warranty guidelines, but will still wipe anynew car warranty, you would need to argue with the dealer about any implied warranty

KPM, I was just wondering if you could or would consider providing warranty plans to people that get their cars tuned by your selected network of tuners. For example if I go into a tuner and get my car tuned, would you be prepared to offer some sort of consumer protection, even if I didn't use KPM add ons. Food for thought I guess, but I do see an opportunity in the market place for such a service. Obviously there would have to be certain limitations.

In the used car case any repairs required would need to be covered under statutory warranty within 3 months 5000ks from date of sale, (or aftermarket warranty if this was purchasd) if its tuned and you want to try for ford warranty then try, if they reject it then costs would need to be argued with the used car department.
