Buying Fpv

Hey guys.. I can't seem to find intro thread so Ill do it here instead :D

I'm Matt and 21 from Queensland on the Gold Coast,

Anyways, missus and myself are looking buying 07-08ish FPV in few months time and will be our wedding car too... We currently got 2004 Patrol at the moment which we are selling at the moment. (would love to keep it but money keeps draining on it lol)

FPV has always been my favourite car and finally looking into it.. I found a few floating around carsales.com.au..... Looking at R spec's or am I wasting my time? Personally I want to go for 6 cylinders instead of 8s and prefer auto for the missus too.

What should I look out for in FPV models? Service history of course, what about common faults/problems to look out? We are planning to keep it few 5+ years...

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Cheers

Here the picture of my patrol if anyones interested :D

Service history was just mentioned in a thread I was reading the other day. But in short what was said was, don't base car choice solely on car service. Plenty of people do services themselves and obviously won't be logged. Ford ask a ridiculous amount for services and many people do it for peace of mind, knowing its been done right. That the filters actually been changed, oil has been flushed and new stuff in. Yes..people have paid for services and it hasn't properly been done!

Some people have even paid for an inspector to come out with them once they've narrowed their choices down (someone posted about $300 per visit) but well worth it as they can check many many more things than most of us can ourselves. Paint thickness all over the car for example to see if its been resprayed.

Good luck with the sale and the search for the new beast :spoton:

Welcome by the way! Lol

R spec is worth it if you plan to keep the car for a very long time. They will eventually become rare classics.

When Paulie says 'a long time', we're talking about it starting to be worth something in 2025 or later. Until then, it will depreciate like the other cars. In another 10 years though, they will be rare (and probably extinct from new car manufacturing) so they'll start to slowly go up in value.

I would not buy one for an investment as it will not be.

Have a look at the Force 6 FPV as it is a very rare car.

There are many for sale, take you time as there are many FPV's on the market.

You may be able to afford a higher KM FG, as this would be a better choice than the BA2/BF

I don't think that's necessarily true. If you had an R SPEC that was Unmodified (only original vintage cars are worth anything) in 2040, I reckon it would be worth $15K or $20K. If you managed to keep it past 2050 you might be able to get your money back if you bought it new.

You have to account for inflation so R spec in 2050 should be worth around 150-200k

And also if you'd put the money into some sort of investment fund as well. Can't drive investment funds though.
