New Number Plate Prices

When did the new numberplate prices for NSW sneak in??

When I ordered my last set of plates in october (for my fairmont) it was still just the $31 deposit, and $400 a year. Now its $50 once off, and $400 a year. (the $31 deposit counted towards the $400 before - now it doesnt)

Also - for the "personalised" plates - like "CJF 077" or "HOT 04D" or "SLO 40L" type plates - before it used to be about $160 once off, and then nothing extra per year. Now its $50 once off, and $100 a year ($130 a year if you get a coloured plate)

Also - the price for putting plates on hold has gone up too!! I paid $20 something to put my plates from my ute on hold when I sold it (in november) and now its $50 annual fee.

Hmmmm.... I really hope I get my XR8 motor finished soon, cos its already 2 months out of rego, and knowing my luck, they will probably have some new fee for registering a car with custom plates when its out of rego for longer than xxx months.

Thank the NSW Treasurer, Michael (Comrade) Egan.

The prices usually go up at July 1 each year as a CPI increase. that's why TINS go up in price each July 1.

oh yeah, tell me about it...I have personal plates at present, but have just ordered some *special* plates for my T. So:

$50 ordering fee

$400 annual fee

$50 annual fee to put my present plates in hold and;

$33 to get new plates on the car I am about to sell...RIPPED OFF!!!!!!!!

I think it will all be worth it though, to see my new baby roll out looking all schmick! :ta:

haha

I just hope PPQ and Queensland Transport dont start doing the same. Currently they all are 'once off'.

So no one knows when the new prices came into effect??

I guess I am lucky, cos I missed out on the new prices (I must have just snuck in, cos I only put my plates on hold 1 month ago), but a couple of my mates are annoyed, cos they just went to order some plates as a christmas present, and dont like the new fee's.

So are you saying that these charges apply only to new plate purchases, or should I expect to get an annual bill for $100 for plates I purchased back in July? :angry:

The RTA confirmed for me on Friday that the fee is only applicable to new plates from 'last month'. I take that as from the start of November, but can't quantify that. I just wanted to make sure that existing ones do not attract the annual fee, and so it is...
