Hi,

So I'm wanting to widen my rear rims which are twisties but would like some advice on how large I can go before having to roll the guards. Can I get into the 300's?

I'm thinking of buying 4 new ones and using the one's on the car currently. At the same time I think I'll get them powder coated and black out the entire car. Someone said Billeau Engineering at Labrodor (near Gold Coast) should be able to do it for me. I'm in Brisbane.

Are there any issues that I need to be aware of?

PS - here's a photoshop'd pic of the car with twisties powder coated.

theyre alloy rims, pretty sure you cant widen them.. steel rims are fine.

just buy some decent wide lightweight rims instead at least you can get good wheel fitment then

Was only just talking about this the other day with the boys at hi-torque. Billeau Engineering are just across from them. Yes it can be done and you'll need a 'donor' set. Basically, they cut the inner rolled edge off the donors with the correct amount of material as per the desired increase (say 1.5inch) and weld onto the other rim once they cut the inner edge off that one. The only thing I'm unsure of is whether they can add material to change the offset. They do good work there mate so I'm sure you could get the result you're after. The only thing though is it is about the same price as a new rim.

Powder coat looks awesome. Need to send Worm a PM, he is the wheel guru regarding size and offset. I think you will find it will be quite expensive to have these cut and widened and generally you would need 2 sets of rims which they will cut and return 1 set of rims, awesome idea but I think the $$ might change your mind based on the size you can fit, when you could go out and buy another set (non twist rims) that will bolt on and be the right size and offset out of the box for your desired outcome.

Thanks for the comments so far fellas.

I'm really not a fan of after market rims at all, and just wanted a subtle change to allow me to get more power to the road. I'm not even really interested in the dark argents or going to 20".

I tried to email Billeau Engineering from their website but it's not working so I'll contact via phone next week to see what the g-o is.

Does anyone know where I can get rims powdercoated? I'm in Brisbane.

Forget powdercoating too, just get some satin black cans from Autobarn and theyll turn out like mine. Just make sure you prep them properly and give a light sand.

Half a days work and $50 worth of gear and still looking like the day I did them a year and a half ago.

Yep forget the powder coat is used to do it for a living and the amount of people who bring them back from one stone chip and the whole lot begins to peel off.

Just make sure like Berzerker said , prep is everything for good adhesion, prime, undercoat and then paint... just get what ever rims you decide on painted at a Panel beaters if you are all thumbs and better off in the kitchen wearing an apron ;)

JOISUS Berzerker... That looks impressive mate and a dyi too! Very aggressive stealth looking...

I'm now thinking of taking them to a paintshop and getting only the unpainted sections of the wheel painted. This will leave the already grey details there and think it would work well. It guess it would be good to get them topped with a clearcoat to finish them off too.
