The whole stall thing refers to the airflow not the actual mechanical component.

Yep, quite a disadvantage IMHO.

But it sounds cool :buttrock:

bovs are a whole different debate. some say it lags coz the turbo has to work harder to spool up when bov is blocked off because of the air rushing back through the blades. some say theres less lag cause the pipes are already pressurised by the air that didnt escape.

imo if there was a difference people wouldnt be on both sides of the fence. so yer. want tututut block off bov and get some boost up ya.

My mate on his WRX had a aftermarket bov on it for a while went alright.. Then he took the bov out plumbed it back, and the shove it had on gear changes was a shock.. Im guessing all the pressurised air now left in the system made for some neck breaking gear changes, was awesome.. Felt heaps quicker

There's an article on Autospeed where Nizpro reckon they tested this on a car running 1:40's round Winton. It supposedly lost around 2 sec a lap with a BOV fitted. Apparently WRC cars don't have them for this reason?

I have no BOV & get the tututut sound. Jeremy Clarkson defines it as 'like squirrels going through a blender' :blum:

Wow this thread is crazy, The air forced back through the compressor DOES NOT stall the compressor wheel it creates turbulance which causes the flutter/ "dose" (hate that word) sound, effect on the turbocharger is debateable but increased shock loading on the shaft and bearings can contribute to a failure, bov's are there to allow the compressor to spin freely during closed throttle high boost situations and do allow the turbo to build boost much faster when WOT is reapplied

I got it but don't want the flutter or (dose?? where the f*ck does dose come from?) anyway mine is a g6et and I hate the flutter. its so loud and it makes my sleeper sound like a truck. I guess its a trade off when going with bigger power/boost/piping etc

anyway of getting rid of the flutter? will an aftermarket plumb back bov allow more air to flow out at the throttle body end? does it plumb back into the air intake, before the turbo?
