Overboost After Rebuild

Featured Replies

My car is a nizpro stage 2+ car. Recently had my turbo rebuilt by rotor master and had new exhaust housing put on as old one was cracked. So they ported my wastegate at same time as expected. Turbo is now back on car bit I'm having massive overboost issues.

Tune commands 17.5psi, buts it's going 24+. If I kept my foot into it I believe it would keep going.

What could be the issue? They told me the new wastegate should flow better than the last one. So why is it now overboosting?

I didn't think in this instance a retune of the wastegate duty cycle was needed.

Any input welcome. Thanks guys.

Could be a shit port job or a badly adjusted wastegate actuator.

The 3566r i bought earlier this yeah was ¨ported¨ and had an 11lb actuator fitted. Fitted the turbo without checking the wastegate cracking pressure. Car would boost to 24psi and couldn't be pulled down any lower. Had to remove the turbo and report the gate and adjust the wastegate cracking pressure down to around 10lb.

You could try a retune but will probably find its a mechanical issue

I agree with hiddeous.

I have seen a 11 lb actuator that would not crack open until after 20 psi, I also know that some people believe a good port job is just a larger round hole.

I'm really hoping rotor master are better than that!!

I'm going to check vacc/boost hoses again today. Been very busy.

But my thoughts were similar to you guys.

I just remembered.

When turbo came off the old wastegate wouldn't seal. The flapper moved around all over the place. Now it had a touch up tune at nizpro early last year. If nizpro has retuned wastegate duty cycle to suit leaky flapper, would having a good one now cause my issues??

moved around as in the Flapper itself rotates (normal) or the arm was wobbling around (as in the pivot arm bush was worn?)

Re the rotomaster comment. MTQ did mine. Unfortunatly what "works" for other turbo cars doesnt always work with the fords. There are a few good threads on how to correctly port the wastegate. if you do have to take yours off look them up.

If your handy with a spare and have die grinder and a few carbide burrs and buff pad its a fairly simple task.

Yup bush was really shagged!

Rotor master said they had done them before.

Well I'm going to go bypass the boost solenoid and see what happens. If it still spikes, I'm in trouble!
