Grinding Sound From Brembo

Hi guys, I upgraded the standard front brakes on my fg xr6t sedan a while ago to 6pot brembos.. probably around 6 months ago. Now about 2 months ago I was driving normally when all of a sudden when coming to a stop applying little pressure I get a really bad grinding almost honking noise coming from my front right brake. very noticeable and loud.. anyways this only happened once.. didnt return to just recently, and it just comes and goes randomly... could be doing it today and not doing it for another couple of months??

I really have no clue to why and im looking for feedback on things to check or possible causes... when the I hear the sound it doesnt seem like its locking up the brakes or anything . still brakes fine .

Car moded - no warranty.

Strip the brakes down and clean.

I only have 4 pots but are smooth and progressive.

Friend of mine had a stone lodged in the calipers - did much the same

It will either be a stone or may be a large peice of metal in the makeup of the pad. If its not constant it wont be the rattle springs/clips which I assume the brembos have.

Take them off and clean them and look at the pad surface. Also look at the disc for scoring marks.

I've heard of pads going in less then 3 months with really hard driving. My last set of ultimates only lasted 9 months. It may be the pad on it's death bed. 6 months with the occasional hard drive sounds about right for pad life? Intermitent grinding before you come to a stop is the sound you get.

yeah the thing is this happens every once ina while... not like every second day or something which makes it even harder to figure out what exactly it is....

pads are still ok.. not worn to a point where they are going to be making grinding sounds, plus its only happening on the right side.. hrmmm

and yeah no warrenty.

Are you sure it is not a vibration instead of a grinding ?

Jeeeeezzzzzzuuuuuuzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I got 3 years and 29000klm out of my 4 pots. I must be driving like a damn nancy pensioner; see what bloody speed cameras do? I just replaced the front discs with DBA 4000s machined the rears and put Project Mu's all round on it. Replaced the front hubs with OME parts at the same time. Now it stops much better and all the rumbling noise has gone.

Picked up an Avis 5 ltr 2010 Mustang with 6200 miles at LAX on Tuesday and it had the same bloody hub noise as the BFs get, swapped it for another one with 11000 miles on it and whisper quiet. Must be the luck of the draw. Gave it a bit of a tickle on a long straight today and they don't stop pulling even at 150 MPH. Great to drive in a place where the coppers are not really that interested in speeding and don't know the meaning of the word Hoon.
