Are you guys sure the police have the speed limiter turned off? When would they need to go over 230km/h? I seem to recall one of our law enforcement members (VG or plonky) stating that the police's XR6T's were standard + premium brakes. Maybe VG or plonky could confirm/deny this.

Remind me where the maximum torque occurs on our cars? Where's the need to remove the rev limiter? Although it would be nicer if it just bounced against it instead of cutting the engine so roughly...

It's turned off alright, apparently it's not hard to do either. without it the car should be good for ~265kph. Why would the police need to go over 230K? To catch an XR6 Turbo of course

wheeeel, I'm pretty sure the cop cars have it turned off. I'm too capable a driver to over-rev the engine.

Reving the T to its current RPM cut out is almost pointless! these things produce there best power around 4400rpm! rev it much more than that and it will start to slow down almost!

Remove the speed limiter by all means just make sure you have an engine oil cooler before hand but dont fit it in front of the radiator like some fools do!

From my time in the dealerships I'm sure the police have the speed limiter removed!

Anyone out there that can turn it off or make it say around 7000rpm please tell us.

It may not be a practical soluton for the turbo because its not making any hard power after 6000rpm.

But now I have the XR8 its hard power range is from 4000 to 6000rpm and I always manage to hit the limiter.

NO. Once it's gone,it's gone. As for the rev limiter, It cannot be removed. As most guys here say,why bother. There's no real advantage.

The rumour mill about police cars has been done before!

The only difference is a heavier duty alternater and wiring harness, and in TMU (Highway Patrol) they option the premium brakes on the Fords, but not all the time. The dash is also "flashed" to get the digital speed up on the right LCD screen on the Ford dash. Occaisionally, but not always, the 6 cyl cars come with factory sports suspension.

This is the case with all police cars, and I am refering to Victoria, no hot mods to make them any quicker.

It probably costs more to fit out a Taxi in Victoria than a general duties (I.e. 6 cyl "XT" Falcon) sedan. Taxis are fitted with all the radios, paint job, chequers on the sides and lights (even if they are those silly silly little orage ones) that a police car has, except a taxi also has Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), common in NSW police vehicles, but not here in Vic.

So to answer, in Victoria, the speed limiter function perfectly well. Imagine what the coroner would say about Victoria Police if a police car crashed at 270km/h 'cos the 230km/h speed limiter had been removed and someone died? He wouldn't be impressed me thinks.
