26/07/10 03:03 AM26/07/10 03:03 AM #1 well my time in afganistan is nearly done. on return I plan on getting a new car as my bf f6 was crashed just before leaveing. I just have a few questions. as I bought the wreck back I have all the f6 parts but most importantly the engine is wat I want to keep as it is a atomic 698 engine just wondering how all the fg intake runners and turbo housing go mounting to the older style of engine and the engine mounting to the car and gearbox?id really like to keep this engine as it cost me a furtune and is strong as. the only reason I would get a bf again is so I could keep this engine. thanks any help would be awsome
26/07/10 09:42 AM26/07/10 09:42 AM #2 id give atomic a ring mate. I think the only problem you may have is the head. they are different on the fg's but it could still be doable. in saying that, have'nt there been fg bottom ends fitted to ba-bf? should work the other way round yeah. good luck. 26/07/10 11:22 AM26/07/10 11:22 AM #3 I fitted an FG F6 short motor to my BF1 using the BF head. The FG has the dipstick in a different place, and the engine mount on the drivers side (the alloy cast piece the bolts onto the motor may need to be modded). I had to mod my BF bracket so it would bolt onto the FG block, so I'm not too sure in vice versa. Hope this helps. Edited 26/07/10 11:24 AM26/07/10 11:24 AM by mattyb
12/08/10 06:58 PM12/08/10 06:58 PM #4 Author brad at atomic told me it needs a new sump which he can do I have also noticed the head looks different is that just a garnish or is there a bit of work in changeing the cover over. and has any got any more infor about the engine mounts
12/08/10 07:51 PM12/08/10 07:51 PM #5 I will be bolting an FG long motor to B series manifolds in the next couple of weeks, if that works then you going the other way should work too. Unsure if I get the garnish but I've heard the FG garnish holds the coils in better.
21/09/10 10:46 AM21/09/10 10:46 AM #6 Author I was thinking could I use the atomic block ie the forged pistons etc and just bbolt the fg head to it and sump
22/09/10 12:38 AM22/09/10 12:38 AM #7 I have been told that an FG block will retro fit to a B series vehicle, but due to engine mounts a B series block will not fit in an FG.Im sure if you really, really wanted to fit it, with enough FG parts (Plenum, fuel rail, head, exhaust manifold, turbo setup, sump mods etc.) you might be able to make it work.If not, send me a price on the Atomic bottom end...Pending price and if its all ok (not damaged from your accident), id be keen!
