yeah but look at the quality of the roads there. doubt you would see the types of cars that there are here. They must think we are crazy with police cars worth twice / three times the value of a typical car.

Oh. Did I mention that an Indonesian license entitles one to drive in Australia ? (with infinite demerit points)

Not bad for a $500 card. Of course, if you're an Australian resident with a license suspension, it'd be very sus.

Hey Iconic.....

Another question that may be relevant....

Is it correct that the Police now have roadside cameras they can set up before booze buses (or anywhere else for that matter) which can take a No. plate, and then tell them instantly....

Wether the car is registered

Wether the car's owner is currently disqualified/suspended

Wether the owner has outstanding warrants, or has their name flagged for some other reason?

Thanks mate.

In NSW they do have cameras that are setup to catch unrego/unlicensed/DUI/Etc.

It is called ANPR (Automatic Number plate recognition) technology. It can scan about 4plates per second and reference it against the Police/RTA databases.

It is the best technology the Police use to catch offenders just driving by. It is used extensively in the UK.

Hopefully we will see it more in NSW and less speed cameras, as these DO reduce the road toll by removing the unlicensed and un regoed cars off the road.

Question answered.....saw them demonstrating the system on the news tonight.

Great bit of technology....and Zap is right...these things will have an impact on people who really shouldn't be on our roads. :3gears:

No camera has the ability to check the licence in the wallet of the person driving the car. Still some good.

Driving during any period of disqualification carries an automatic 2 year disqualification on top of what you already have, but this equals your second serious traffic offence and if you have any others, sush as drink driving your declared an habitual traffic offender, where your automatic 2 years gets an automatic 5 years added to it, so your now in the 7 years and beyond with no licence saga.

Iconic is Right..... According to the Traffic Offenders Intervention Program run for the NSW Courts, If you have lost your license (first offence - P.C.A. or dui, neg driving, more than 40 km/h over limit, dangerous driving, culpable driving, drive whilst disqualified, etc), then if you are charged with a "second serious driving offence within 2 years" you are considered a repeat offender and automatically dished out an additional 2 years ON TOP of whatever the judge dishes out, and you ARE considered an habitual offender if you offend 3 times in a two year period (rolling two years) which carries an additional 5 years on top of what the judges hands you... Quite possibly a gaol sentence....

You CAN make a FALSE STATEMENT when you apply for your license, but most states are now linked together and cross-reference with other states, with the possible (still?) exception of QLD. they seem to avoid buddying up with NSW on any information sharing. It IS possible to have an QLD driver's licence whilst suspended in NSW, but you have to SURRENDER your NSW licence to get your QLD license. (to get around this you would have to have had an interstate license previously and have that licence RE-INSTATED, not a NEW ISSUE) the risk of this would would be you may incur charges like obtain a driver's license by deception, or the like. Obviously what you get charged with depends on how much you piss of the walloper that pulled you over.....

The long and short of it is yes, you can, and no, you can't.....
