Hey guys how are we doin?

I have been thinking about this for a long time now and decided to do a little digging into it. I have some questions about driving the big dump trucks in the mines.

Firstly I guess, are they fairly easy to drive for the average person? What gearbox are they? I heard automatic with just forward/reverse? Whats the best place/way to go about getting into doing this?

I guess my main problem is ive wanted to do it for quite a while now but at the moment I work in a bowling club after spending years on the roads, and I guess im a bit worried about stepping out of my comfort zone and not being able to drive them after im given the chance, I love to work, I love putting in the hours, just whether I can actually perform the job has me a little worried

any information would be greatly appreciated cheers

do you have any type of truck licence , MR , HR

HR truck would be the first step , then all the tickets needed to work in the mine sites , but as said not the easiest job to get I knbow a couple of guys who have worked for us have tried without luck , plenty of jobs out there for driving the truck and dog tippers HC licence

maybe take a drive up around the Hunter go to the mines up there and ask for some info .

Living in emerald in the central queensland coal fields, it's a lot of who you know not what you know, and I know that it's that way around the place too. I have friends (yes I do!) who have no experience driving trucks and picked up traineeships a month or so ago with Theiss (I think, could be Goldings or Felix Group). If you can get in on a traineeship, it's stilla minimum $1000 in the hand a week, they provide the training and the 'Black Coal Competency' usually working a roster something like 5 days on five days off, or 3 days, 2 nights 6 off, 3 nights 2 days 5 off etc.

I have a couple of applications in at the moment and am looking to get into a stress free position such as dumpy driving, but I'm not holding my breath.

If you have a truck licence my only advice is apply, if you are successful, you'll need to get a Coal Board Medical (coal industry physical), sit your 'Generic Coal Industry Industions'.

Good Luck!

Hi there I work at callide coal fields in Biloela QLD , at the moment there are Trainee ships going and u dont need any experience just go on the Anglo coal web site and do a job search and apply. also Workpac office in Mackay are hireing clean skins for callide and blackwater pits now so get on to it. You dont need any experience but it helps.

I used to drive one, only a baby one though.

Was so boring, I would drive around with a newspaper on my knees.

Seriously counting down the seconds all day

The most important thing about being a dumpy truck driver is, if you have not heard a rumour by smoko, start one.

Seriously, when you apply try to get across that you are focused on safety and safe working practice.

The safety aspect in big places is mind numbing..

Be aware of drug and alky hole policies also..

Good luck.
