Traction Control

I've got a ba xr6 04 n/a and under the fog light button on the dash is a button that cannot be pressed and it has no print. this is where traction control usually goes. the other day I pulled it out and I noticed that it had some wires leading to this dummy button. light blue, black, blue/white, blue/purple connected to a green plug. if I get a traction control button, will I be able to turn it off?

cheers

I don't think the N/A even have the TC program in their ECU? I could be wrong though.

Good question! Did these ever come with TC?? I wouldn't think someone would just disconnect and remove switch. Unless someone really frustated and removed it. Which I could understand. Are you saying you have TC and cannot turn off????

I'll check my brother in-laws BA XR6 NA next time I see him to see if he has the wires there as well. It probably is because the dash harness for the fogs and the TC is most likely part of the one loom.

The way you can tell if you have TC is find a patch of dirt and spin the wheels, the engine will cut power to try and stop the wheel spin. If it keeps happily spinning, then it doesn't :sleepystuff:

HI if the car has TC it will have a switch and if no TC no switch but the wiring is still there ( compare your abs module under the bonnet with one on a car with traction control and I think you find it will be different as non traction control cars 3 channel abs and cars with TC 4 channel) cheers md

Hi,

Anyone that can tell me exactly how the BF F6 traction control is supposed to work? My car has had some tuning done before I bought it. (unknown place, with at least 280 rwkw) I think they have messed with the software so the Traction is no longer working.

Last week I had a near miss on my way home from the licencing centre. A bit tired so when I pulled out from a roundabout the rear end lost traction, and I was suddenly doing 'drifting' (sideways) Not so cool when you are in the middle of public traffic..

Anyway, I have noticed that the little yellow light is flashing on the instrument cluster when I loose traction, but it doesn't seem to kick in and actually do something. Does the factory traction control apply brakes? or does it just remove power from the engine? What happens first? and what can be wrong in my car? Anyone knows if this can be 'edited' back into my ECU software? (without removing the tune)

thanks for your help,

regards Gsimon

I dont believe stability control was fitted to the B-series FPVs, traction control will cut engine torque if one of the rear wheels loses traction but wont help for sideways movement.

A vehicle fitted with DSC can brake individual wheels to keep things relatively civil, but not traction control.

Before I had a company car, it was BA XR6 MK2, and it had the most anoying traction control..

If a wheel started spinning (for example on wet road) then it sounded like it was doing ABS breaking, and it also lost power for a very long time. I believe the traction control is provided by the Bosch ABS unit, but I also believe there is communication with the ECU to remove power.

Probably my BF F6 is supposed to have the same? (probably a bit more agressive programming?)

I'm tempted to look for an aftermarket system, and fit the Racelogics system from UK, It has adjustable slip percentage, and does not use the brakes, only reduces the engine power by removing fuel injection pulses to random cylinders. However the Racelogics system is expensive, and I think it may also trigger the check engine light.

Does anyone know more details of the Bosch traction control on BF?
