Looking for a new set of tyres and am havig trouble deciding.

The Kuhmo KU31's seem to get good reviews.

I am after something that doesn't wear too fast and also grips pretty well in the wet and dry.

Any suggestions or places in Melbourne to buy???

Cheers

James

Mate,

I had some 19" KU31's - lasted no time at all on the phoon...

They were on the front for about 5K noise and otherwise just a tyre...

Went on the back lasted all of about 5K on there... (10K in total 5/5)

Had the bastards split (there is a thread here somewhere about it)... and well all round bad experience IMPO... Others have had good runs...

Wacked some Falkins on the front - much quieter... they are on the back now - plenty of grip, quiet, and seem to be doing well so far - 3 thousand into it on the back since another swap... Falkins on the front (so all round at the moment) - and it seems to be HAPPY DAYS!!!

If you can get a set of Dunlop Daruzzes (or whoever its spelt) - they are the original tyre im lead to believe the Falkins where designed after. Same Factory, and near same pattern and compound mix... up side is the Dunlops are cheaper... (If I can get next time round - will give me a spin myself on the phoon)...

We had a set of the Daruzzes on the XR5 - and they were great!

Might be worth a look see!

I put Pirelli Dragons on my stock 17s and I really like them; quieter than the dunlops, good in the wet, not sure about the wear rate though - only had them on for a few thousand kms. I can't comment on any other tyres since these are the only ones I've had on.

The original Dunlops were specifically desinged for the XR series and are OEM for these cars. Though a few more $$$ then others available, they are highly suited to these cars, and more so at the correct pressures that arnt written on the inside of the drivers door.

I'll put a vote in for the kumho KU36s also, got a set of these fitted recently and I am very impressed with the amount of grip. They were cheaper than the falkens that I was running previously too.

No way are the OEM tyres the best, I'm certain Dunlop must pay Ford to fit the fcking things just to get the follow-up replacement sales. If you go back for more of these you've got rocks in your head, tyres that cost less are better in every aspect.

Another vote for the dragons here, for the price they are awesome. Take a bit of getting used to coming from the dumlops though as they don't tramline nearly as much so you actually have to steer :headbang2:
