Hi Guys

New to the forum here and in the process of making up my mind on what car to buy next!

Currently own an 05 wrx which im sort of getting bored with after almost 2 years of ownership.

After listing numerous potential cars its come down to two candidates which I am yet to actually take for a drive and see which I prefer.

- BF Typhoon

- 06 Tuned By Sti Liberty

Always been a fan of the BA onwards turbo models but could never see myself owning a Ford (think its the way I was bought up with Holdens always in the family).

Would like to get some Pros & Cons on the BF Typhoon

Whats good about it (apart from looks & being turbo of course), and what should I be carefull of?

A few questions about 300+ rwkw

1) What "sensible" mods would see me over the 300 barrier?

2) If going the manual option, would clutch need to be changed?

3) What do you guys get out of a tank and how big are the typhoon tanks?

Obviously petrol consumption will differ from the rex and 80% of the time I have a heavy right foot :stirthepot:

P.S. Sorry if this is the wrong section wasnt to sure exactly where to post :tonguepoke:

Cheers

Paul

I'm surprised no one has replied to this yet. Correct me if I'm wrong guys...

A quality intercooler and cold air intake, exhaust, and injectors + fuel pump should should see you able to make well and truly into the 300+ area. (350+ probably) With a good tune.

I'm running a BF XR6T and with a plazmaman cooler and pipework, injectors, exhaust, and fuel pump and a custom tune I'm making and easy 330 Rwkw, we could have wound it up more, but these were my first mods to the car (and I had to get my wife used to this much before I tickle it up a bit further). One step at a time.

My old girl has the STI tuned Libery - Luxurious, but nowhere, and I mean nowhere near as fun as her old WRX or my T.

Someone else will have to talk about clutches cos I run the 6 speed auto. As for fuel consumption, I got 450 to a tank standard and now get 410 to 420 around town. My highway economy got better by a good 70 to 100km.

in short:

look at my sig and add a decent exhaust/wastegate mod and you'll be able to see 320-350rwkw @ 15/16psi. You may also want a surge tank at those power levels.. the typhoon will already have the 6 speed manual, which is the only manual gearbox you should buy.

You need a new clutch yes. stock one won't handle anything other than stock.

A new clutch??? Typhoon has the AP racing twin plate I think you confused it with the standard xr6t clutch which can't handle much.

Typhoon clutch should be fine at those power levels.

If you wanted to you could reach 300 with just injectors, bigger cat converter and a tune. But a decent cooler + exhaust + injectors + fuel pump + tune will see you well in to 300 rwkw and making it safely and consistently.

cheers for the input guys just wanting to see what would be needed and try to work out some rough costs.

mattyb - so your running standard computer or a piggyback aswell?

Also, what CAI would be best? I currenty have an APS in guard on my wrx which is pretty decent compared to some of the other options out there. Is the aps cai for the xr6t any good? Or are there better options to choose from.

sorry yeah, ap racing twin plate will handle that power easily.

standard computer can be re-programmed using a capa flash box, and is how these cars are tuned. the flash box turns the stock ecu into a completely programabale ecu. quite nifty.

CAI, you will already have a typhoon intake which will be fine. using stock piping, with a typoon intake, will be fine.

use the search function and spend a few weeks reading up on other peoples experiences and recommendations!

This site is full of helpful advice and nifty secrets.

I used the site for a year before buying my car and modding it. It paid off, as I got a very good car at a great price and spent my money wisely!
