Stuttering Under Load, Help With Diagnosis

Featured Replies

#1

Hi all.

Past 2 months car had gradually started to kind of stutter when either under medium to high load, and when I floor it.

Have had a mechanic tell he thinks its the Cat, so I took it to the exhaust shop, and they say its almost definately not the Cat.

So I took car to UltraTune yesterday to put it on computer for diagnostics.

Everything came back fine.

Im changing spark plugs today, so will see how that goes.

If not, I guess ill do the coil packs.

Any suggestions?

I did a forum search, there is a few similar stories, one where I happened to be the Cat.

Will post back after changing the plugs today.

Change the coils and plugs mate - more than likely the coils, but it never huirts to have a fresh set of plugs in

Just about to insert new plugs,

On the coils - on most of them where the spark plug would sit, and even on the spark plugs there is some white grease/goo.

What is this? Also the have some hairline fractures at the top part of the coil .I havent got new coils to put in, but am suspecting that thery're farked

I'm not sure exactly what the goo is, however it may have been used to stop the coils arcing out. Clean the goo off and wrap the ends of the coils with electrical tape. See how it goes, but getting a new set of coils would be a good idea...

A mate that was 'helping' me just dropped a allen key bolt into where the PVC thing goes thinking it was a hex screw hole...

Where does that go? its proving very hard to get it out.

does it happen constantly or only after driving for a while?

mine does the same thing, but only after the car has been running for a while (roughly 1.5hrs, mostly sitting idle but it does the same thing after cruising on the highway for a bit too). turning the car off then on again fixes it and I dont seem to get error codes every time it happens.

keen to see how you go with changing coils. I think that's next on my list of things to replace :(

I haven't had mine off for a while, but I think if you pull the black cover off you can pull the PCV valve out - maybe someone can confirm this...

The PCV valve vents the oil vapour out of the head, the allen bolt shouldn't have ended up in there, just in the valve I think - can you see it?

Nah I had the PVC walve fully out, its fallen into the head inside engine.

All is good and put back together. Thanks supercheap for the extendable flexy magnet, I got it out.

Problem seems to be solved too on the 5 minute testdrive that I just went on. Will report back after 50+ km to work and back tomorrow
