Hey guys,

Was recently made redundant and decided its time for a change of scenery....

A mate of mine is in the same position and suggested we look into cruise ship jobs.

He is a barman/waiter and im a chef.

I am just wondering if anyone has had any experiences or know of anyone that has??

I have never even considered it until now so I need all the help I cant get...

Heres the link:

Tell me what you think??

Cheers

Reuben

Bit like an island job, but worse.

Fantastic for the first few weeks...until your liver packs in as the only thing to do off-duty (working the hours that you do) is

Never ventured on to a ship as I was talked out of it, Keppel Island was enough for me.

Having said that it'd still be worth it for the experience though

Sounds glamourous, but $62k is not great money given you are away from home.

It will be a high pressured production line with a sh*t load of covers at every service, how many hours/shifts per day ?

Wages or salary ?

In my experience on cruises , meals still have to provided for those who do not wish to go ashore.

What is the roster for this. Otherwise a kitchen is just a kitchen.

By know means an expert, just my 2.2cents outside looking in

Well Dags is one....

Tab is 1/2

Buf is 1/3

Yeah all these point crossed my mind, the liver get hit hard regardless...

And the 62k a year is good considering for a chef in Hobart to be earning 55k is pushing it...

And take into account you dont have to pay for food or accommodation.

All the other questions I would have to find out about???

Will keep you posted......

Or does anyone know of a job being Jeremy Clarkson, I wouldnt mind that

Good!

(<<wonder how that guy blows that perfectly round bubble under water like that, hmmm????))

$55 k for chef for some of the best meals available in OZ. WTF

I have had some of the best meals anywhere in the world in Salamanca Place,

and Ive eaten at a few of them over the years. Wine is very good also

I suppose it depends on your domestic situation.

If your single give it a whirl, don't like it abandon ship and jump off at the Island of your choice

62K is good money considering you dont actually have to pay all that much if you get the right package. Also 62K sure beats getting nothing :)

Do you get seasick? My guts come up when its dead flat and when it gets rough I've seen people crying from pain. Not great if your miles from shore. Mind you European and Carribean waters are generally fairly tame. Keep in mind you wont be allowed to "socialise" with foreign women on holidays which would be a PITA for a single bloke. Shore leave can be great fun but ;) Of course there will always be times when shore leave doesnt go your way but it all works out sorta.

I've spent a day or two on boats, both playing and working and I truly love it. I love the ocean, I love boats , I love diving, fishing, watching girls in bikini's, sailing and most of all I love seeing people enjoying themselves on the water. BUT you also have to remember its about making it glamorous for the paying pax (charter speak lol), not you!

If your a friendly person who wants to work on boats and help people enjoy themselves go for it!! Good staff on boats are like gold so if your decent, you wouldnt stay a dishpig for long. Trust me on that one.

Anyone wanna give me a years dishpig experience :P I'd happily do something like that. Opens up a lot of options for travelling if your that way inclined

So Tab you worked on Keppel hey??

What did you do and how was it??

Yeah that's where I was right down int he guts of it in Salamanca etc. and I was only on 52k haha

The domestic situation has changed over the last six months, was "married", bought a house together, was all good, and we broke up a month ago and she wants me out of the house.

We will still keep the house, she can live in it, rent out one room and ill pay the remainder, so, yes, im single, but own a house.....

Im not sure about mining, it just seems a bit, I dunno??

Yeah love the wine too, might have to crack into some later tonight...
