New suspension is in!

Another transformation really - to initially describe it best I used an example aviation buffs may be familiar with. It's like stepping into a dynamically unstable (think more sophisticated from less. Mooney from Cessna, Porsche from Commodore) aircraft from a dynamically stable aircraft - that is, the car is less stable on the road than previously because with the new suspension it actually responds to & acts upon driver control inputs. Flipping the wheel a quarter turn along the freeway previously would have resulted in the whale wallowing forward onto it's outer corner & continuing along its original straight ahead path until the rubber overcame the under steer and began changing the vehicles direction. Now, you would just hit the wall! The rubber now has half-a-chance of transferring the cars weight around tight bends at speed, it will take heaps more corner speed before it's overwhelmed.

The ride on the Bilsteins is superb! So much so that I'm going to stick with Ford's rubber (silent) bushes in lieu of the aftermarket bushes that I've purchased to eliminate the risk of developing noises that would spoil the cars beautiful composure. Silent & Fairlane plush without the watery bobbing over the road's irregularities the standard pogo sticks deliver. This is how cars of this nature & this potential should be setup from factory! I would recommend these basic suspension mods (as well as a mild brake upgrade for XR's) 100% prior to getting much more power than these already potent cars deliver. Sway-bars at absolute minimum.

The only disadvantage is a mild step backwards in power-down traction - it's a little more tail happy as a result of the stiffer sway bars & shocks. Not intrusive or a problem though.

It also sits perfectly flat with the SSSL rear springs, akin to the Man-Pants in boot picture from powercruise. Id recommend SL/SSSL over SL/SSL to anyone who's XR6T/Phoon isn't primarily a family/passenger/load carrying vehicle.

Free plug for Pat @ Wholesale suspension, really knows his stuff with regards to the suspension setup's for these cars... I guess you could say their prices are OK too I guess

Thanks mate. Forgot to mention, but the first thing I actually noticed with new suspension in - the brakes. Greatly enhanced, they actually feel like Brembo's now. Not that I ever use them, but they're a sh*tload more effective without two tonnes whaling forward onto them every time the pedal is depressed.

Forward tilt under brakes = gone.

When you fit that cooler + bits, hit P@ up for at minimum a front sway-bar. Both will still only set you back ~$300 or so & you can fit them in your driveway. Best BFYB mod there is IMO.

Yeah came close to ordering a set a couple months ago. Probably do the set and get some nicer rotors and pads once I power mod the first round!

They're King's SSL springs in the rear, P@ from Wholesale should have a part # for them.

However be warned, they sit okay, however tbh *quietly* I'm not 100% happy with how it sits with them man. I actually climbed into the boot in the above pic for this exact reason.

Pretty much exactly like that mate, after they settled that is. The guard JUST eats the tyre by a few mm with a normal fuel load when looking at it from a right angle now, perfect IMO.

The front also appears a smidgen higher as it's perfectly level with the rear. Has probably actually see-sawed up a little as the rear has come down.

Maybe we're just pedantic, as most are happy with their SL/SSL combo
