just had a Walbro pump installed, now the car takes a little bit longer to start compared to the original fuel pump.

Is this normal?

This morning with a quarter tank it took about 4 seconds to start. Does the level of fuel in the tank affect the way the car starts with these walbro pumps?

I fitted a walbro to my ute last week. Starts (imho) better than before with the stoke pump.

I left the pump prime the first time then fired it up and away and is sweet now.

Do what Luke said, turn the key to the accessories so you hear the fuel pump prime first, then once you hear the pump stop (after about 1 second) then try turning the key. This will make sure that the fuel rail is sitting on 60psi all ready to go.

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge installed in your car at all?

As has been stated, let it prime first. It makes a big difference.

yes, tried the prime (I couldnt hear the pump), left the reds on for about 10 secs, then turned it over, still takes a while (about 2-3 secs).. :crybaby:

If you can't hear it prime, something is wrong. Who instaled it?

Take it back & get them to throw a fuel pressure guage in it to make sure everything's hunky dory :crybaby:

Could be a leaking hose from a clamp not being done up enough. When I fitted mine I originally used non submersible fuel hose and after about a month it had started to split causing leaks which in turn took longer to start!

Loss of fuel pressure in otherwords...

that's it :) that's why I asked up the top if there is a fuel pressure gauge installed or not.

My pump install needs the line replaced as mine does not hold the pressure correctly after priming the pump, but this will be rectified free of charge as soon as I get the chance to bring my car back in. It still holds 60 psi perfectly once the car is started.

The reason that the car is hard to start but runs fine is because the pump is bascially dead head when it primes the system.

There is mininmal fuel returning from the rail because there is not vacum present to open the fuel press reg and allow the fuel to circulate

like it does when the car is running.

Either was get it sorted in case it does cause you drama's under load.

It's unusual that it does make anynoise. It may be that the pump is under less load if the pipes leaking....or godforbid the pump is wired up arse about.....

I did my walbro install last week and the wire colours are opposite (black power, Grey earth) on the walbro harness to the original wiring (blue power, black earth) The polarity is marked on the both the old and new pump though.
