I've got a BA XR6 turbo, with those massive standard rods ford gave me. Anyway my question is, If I was to only install billet conrods, like atomic, nizpro etc etc. What would I need to get done?

I mean they're the exact same length? with the same stroke? But weight is totally different will that make a difference??

My other question is, what kinda power would the standard pistons handle??

I've read all over this site couldn't find either answer. Maybe I'm blind or just to tired.

Thanks

-Ben

You can just install new rods but while you are at it you may aswell do pistons and bearings as the cost/time is in the labour not so much the parts.

 If you are going to do it, do it right.

A couple of people have just done rods as they are the cheaper option of the two, as long as the tune is good and the correct fuel is used there shouldn't really be any issues.

If you're thinking about changing rods don't skimp on the extra stuff.

You could probably get away with just replacing piston rings, big end and main bearings while your in there and not worry about pistons.

If it's a cost thing then save some more money to do it right the first time like Senna said.

It will pay dividends in the long run.

I would definately not do rods without doing pistons.

Although I had the factory FPV rods, one of them as a bit bent, and a piston in another cylinder lost a chunk at the top ring land. Although there was a fault on the cylinder, I dont think the stock pistons offer that much head room.

I also belieive that nizpro use a longer rod to improve the rod/stroke ratio so won't suit standard pistons. It looks like they are out anyway as then won't sell you them unless then do the work, and since you are looking for a low cost rebuild, they are not your answer.

Cheers,

Chris.
