The decision had to be made about what to do with Bronson the troubled Dobermann and unfortunately we had no other choice but to take him out :(

Was the hardest thing I've ever had to do, no doubt.

I felt really bad about "replacing" him but our Bull Arab was lost without a friend and was sulking really bad.

So my Mrs. took the day off work last Friday and drove to Ballarat to pick up this little boofhead and surprised me when I got home.

This is Spike, the Great Dane x English Mastiff. He's 10 weeks old and already weighs about 10kgs... My GF said his Dad's head was up to her chest when he was just standing there... So yeah, he's going to be XXXL, we're guessing somewhere around the 65-70kg mark lol.

He and our girl are best mates already and he has somehow toilet trained himself... Only one accident so far and that was my fault.

God damn, dogs are awesome.

Ghosti, Pat on the back mate. You did the right thing with Bronson.

I used to have a Mastif X Dane. Jake was 72kg's and over 6ft standing up on his hind legs. He was the most placid laid bag dog i have ever met. He had quite a taste for the good things in life (like, beer,bourbon and pizza) Unfortunatly he had problems with his neck that where causing him pain in his hinds legs, as it wasn't

operable we had to euthanise him to stop the pain. I still miss that dog.

1 word of advice mate, with a big dog like Spike thats going to MASSIVE and Lanky when he grows up, Don't run him or exercise him too much until he's at least 18months as it can damage there bones (especially there hips and necks)

I love dain X's and would have one again in a flash but they are just too big for my wife to handle. Our current pooch is 55kgs and wieghs more than she does!

Sorry to hear about Jake, I know now more than ever how hard it is to let go of a canine mate and I only had the bugger for 2 months (albeit a fairly intense 2 months). I couldn't imagine putting down a dog that you've raised from a pup. But unfortunately, sometimes you just have to do the humane thing.

My Mrs. was a vet nurse for years so she's pretty up on the possible problems that could arise with certain breeds. So rest assured, he'll be restricted to light exercise only until his bones are fully formed. Really appreciate you mentioning that though, as it's not something I would've otherwise known myself.

update time again,he is now 16 weeks (4mths) old....

the poor little bugger has a problem with facial mites at the moment, apparently its a very common problem in puppies so he has to go get injections every week for 6 weeks

anyway here are some photo's
