Warranty Issue

Took the car in to Ford as the engine light was on...and they said it was two bolts that had come off the turbo which were causing the motor to run lean....

The service guy also said that because the car was not serviced at Ford this problem was not covered under warranty.

Apparently if it was serviced at Ford standard procedure is to tighten the turbo bolts on every service.

He said the turbo bolts look to never have been tightened indicating it was not serviced at Ford.

Hence this is not covered under warranty because if it was serviced at Ford the bolts would have been tightened.

Can anyone shed some FACTUAL light on this...

ask for a copy of the service manual where it says this needs doin every 15k because plenty don't do it I bought mine from a ford dealer second hand with 40k kms on it and the bolts where finger tight on the manifold

What exactly are they refusing to cover under warranty though? The labour on tightening the bolts or something else?

They will do anything to get out of it. Fark ford and keep going to your local service guy. Im sure he charges a lot less than fraud

yep ford service is a bad joke last month I had my car serviced by some ford monkeys 75000km service anyway on the invoice they charged me to check turbo and manifold bolts well no more than two days later the turbo bolts fall out ..........

whats even better is the service manager tried to charge me for new bolts and then 175 bucks to do them back up reckons they didnt check them bolts they only check the other bolts and that these ones are part of the next service .............

so I said oh those other bolts the imagery ones would you like to show me the turbo bolts you done up ? ....service guy looks around and says nothing ...... I go how about you save your bullsh*t for some other f*cking idoit and get off your ass and go and f*cking do the bolts up you *beep* charged me for two days ago to do up but couldnt be bothered to do the first time

I think I keep going back to ford service more so for a laugh than anything else every time they f*ck something up

More Ford dealership B/S!!! If all your previous scheduled services have been carried out by a qualified mechanic AND your service book has been stamped and signed stating as such they cannot deny you warranty! Im assuming your car has not had engine mods performed!

If you have skipped previous services or had servicing done by an unqualified person then and only then can they deny you warranty ... states this in the Fords own warranty book!

It's retarded. This has happened to me 5 or so times since buying my car. and that's in 16,000km or so

First time - Exhaust leak - Tightened

Second time - Exhaust Leak - Tightened

Third time - Turbo died - Replaced - "New bolts" used

Fourth time - 20km later - Tightened

Fifth time - Leaning out / leaking again, tightened.. awesome.

What the hell do I do :/ They say dont use loctite or anything on it.. What do I do.

pretty much same deal as above only started at about 40000km reckon mine have been done over ten times by ford as well as four or five times by me

I havent even got a T yet but is it due to the weight of the turbo pulling away? If so its not unusual for some sort of support to be made up especially on jap cars with aftermarket manifolds to help support the weight of the big turbo. Normally you'd do it to stop cracking the aftermarket manifold - that's unlikely on a cast job but it might help reduce load on the bolts.
