Selling The Xr6t To Buy A Gt; L Think L’ll Wait.

It has proved much more difficult than l ever expected to sell the XR6T for what l think is a reasonable price given all its options, we are down to $45500 with virtually no interest! l think l will give it another week and then cancel the GT order and hang onto it until early next year.

From all l have read, mainly over on FF, it seems almost a certainty if you can believe what you read, that FPV will appear at the Sydney Motor Show in October with a warmed version of the T6. Rumors suggest in excess of 270kw/502nm with an improved manual gearbox and body kit long the lines of that on the GT. Price $55-57k. If this does happen, imagine the performance it will be capable of, l reckon 5.6 0-100 and maybe 13.6 qtrs. It will be a real aussie M3/M5 equivalent and go close to being Australia’s fastest ever production car. AWESOME. Option it up and for $65k you will have a full house potential GT eater. B)

Which then of course makes you wonder where all this leaves the GT. The cheapest car in the range will have the ultimate performance, and be quicker than Fords sacred nameplate, the GT. I feel it will devalue the GT and hurt resale badly, alienating a lot of owners in the process. Of course, a better GT will come along in time, but probably only matching the FPV T6 anyway. l don’t know why Ford would want to do it, but come the end of the year l think l might be putting my hand up for one.

More performance, a better manual box and GT looks. What a car. Bring it on!!!

l am a V8 fan and would love a GT, but this car might just ease my pain of passing on the GT for now.

Sorry to hear about the GT Mondie. I guess the old story about cars devaluing as soon as you drive them out of the showroom is true for the XR6T also.

I too have had these wicked GT thoughts flash through my brain.

With regard to where the GT will stand if (or when) FPV bring out a 'hot' T, I reckon it gives Ford owners or converts yet another option and this is all good. You'll still have you V8 fans going GT and the Turbo guys going T. Good to see I reckon.

Thats really strange Mondie. I was reading one of the Sydney newspapers the other day about the top cars for resale value. They said that the XR6 Turbo and XR6 were within the top 5.

It also mentioned that many people are often buying XR6 Turbo's second hand due to the fact they dont want to wait for them from dealerships.

I think waiting for the FPV XR6T is a good thing. Im sure it will be awesome! I for one know I will be putting my name down for one.

It really beats me. l have had the car in the Melboune Trading Post for 4 weeks, the last 2 with a pic, and have had ONE call

Its been on carsales.com.au for ages and l have had no calls at all from that. What more can you do l read somewhere the other day that the average car loses 28% of its value in its first year, mine is probably priced at around 18% of replacement and is 8 months old so is priced right based on that. Take into account the popularity of the T and long waiting lists and you would think l would be beating off buyers with a stick!

I struggle with your dillema!! I can't believe you haven't had a queue a mile long with cash in hand!!

I could nearly understand if you where offering up a "bog standard" XR6T with no options, however your car has what could only be considered as desirable options.

My condolences on the GT, I hope the dealer is/was understanding.

I really don't know what to say!!

Surely there are ppl here on this site who have read Mondies ad and someone must have a mate who's been for a drive in their car and just now "has to have one"

Can you really just cancel the GT order Simon? I thought an order is just that a binding contract. I'm suprised by the lack of interest also as the few second hand xr6t's I've seen at the dealers have quite high prices on them. Good luck buddy still hope to see you in GT STRIPES!

Mondie, IMO probably a good move waiting for either a turbo FPV, or a series 2 GT.

If it's performance you're after rather than the accessories that a GT offers an XR8 with s/c would be cheaper...except for dramas with insurance.

The FPV turbo "if" built by ford/fpv will be a weapon and a half. It certainly will peeve off the GT owners but no doubt Ford will know that a lot of money can be made from it, after all they are a business and that's what the overall aim is. Expect it to be considerably higher than 270kw's too.....it will blow the doors off a current GT.

Then again series 2 will see a few more fruits added to the Boss engines leaving them quite impressive. But series 2 GT, I'm not sure of a date of release...
