December 13, 200817 yr well last night headed down to the plex for the utes first run down the quarter and ended up leaving on the back of a trusty izuzu tow truck. as I changed into third it chirped then BANG, oil was all over the track and had nothing in any gear. got under the car at the end of the track to find that I actually put a hole the size of a 20cent piece through the diff housing...not happy. does anyone know of a good diff to put into the ute or has anyone heard of 9 inch conversions in perth for ba's?? cheers
December 13, 200817 yr hey mate, a 9" is the best option, and being a ute/station wagon it is much easier than a sedan. any 'good' diff joint should be able to do this for you. call a few places and get quotes and ask alot of questions, you'll be able to tell their knowledge and experience after speaking to a few of them..
December 13, 200817 yr that's unfortunate chaddy!I cant remember the name of the firm, but there are a firm that usually advertise in Perth Street Car that specialise in 9" diffs.Have a flick through an see how ya go, if you dont see anything let me know and ill dig around for the old mags in the cupboard and see if I can find it...
December 13, 200817 yr Author cheers guys, had a flick through yesterday and the place I got my driveshaft done do the conversion so ill give them a call and apparently theres a place in wangara aswell..again cheers
December 13, 200817 yr Yeah its a pretty easy job in a ute to convert to a 9", just make sure you retain your complete axle tubes as you need to setup the abs sensors and stuff, even your speedo runs off the rear wheel speed sensors.you can get cheap sh*t centres off ebay or you can spend a fortune on them, Strange Engineering is the best place to get a centre from but the aussie dollar is not good atm.
December 18, 200817 yr Author not sure yet, I rang a few places and they said they wont be able to do it till after the new year so ill wait n see..
December 18, 200817 yr yer im sure a lot of us ute drivers will be keeping an eye on this so keep us posted mate, good luck anyways hey
December 20, 200817 yr a mate of mine just had a 9" conversion done in his ute with 3.9 gears... looks the goods!!! but it costs a bit at $4900 and hes still got another $1000 to spend on the front shaft before its fully complete.
