Diff Clunk

Featured Replies

#1

Just took delivery of Acid Rush XR6 Turbo and am hearing a clunk during gear changes (manual). Wondering if anyone can shed some light on this subject. Is it because of the LSD? Also hear it between no throttle and slight throttle in 1st gear. Just rolling along.

Cheers

Two words; Driveline Lash!

This is the most disappointing aspect of manual turbos, backlash in the diff causes the clunking you describe. The severity varies on how lucky or unlucky you were with the diff fitted in your car. It has to be VERY bad before Ford will do anything about it. l thought ours was quite bad and it came in at the middle of the acceptable spec when checked by Ford. l dont know anyone on the forum who has it and has been sucessful in getting it fixed.

l am afraid its something you have to live with and get used to. As your feel for the clutch improves it will become less of a problem.

As mondie says mate, a dissapointing asperct of the T but one that you can minimise by getting the feel of the clutch.

I don't get it as bad as I did as I'm learning to drive the clutch better. Practice, practice, practice. Great car to practice on but. :D :innocent:

I rekon my clunk is getting worse. At first it wasn't noticable but now after 7000km its getting a bit worse, and I thought I was getting a bit better on the clutch. Its a damn shame really but I'm not sure there's much we can do about it... :(
