yeh its a sedan, Mark reckons its a fuel pump reset switch

is it the front left foot well,if so it's the fuel cut switch

if the car gets a hard knock that thing is supposed to shut the fuel off

It is the fuel cut reset switch. Fuel is automatically cut off in an accident (even minor ones sometimes) and that's where you reset it.

FUEL SYSTEM SHUT-OFF SWITCH

Your vehicle is equipped with a shut off switch that cuts off the fuel supply in the event of an accident. This is first and foremost for your own safety. Activation of the switch may also be caused through sudden vibrations (e.g. collision when parking). The fuel system shut-off switch is locatd in the front passneger outboard foot well. The reset button for the fuel system shut-off switch is accessible through an opening in the kick panel.
