August 31, 200818 yr #11 be careful mate! I have a friend who got done with a 240kw turbo on his P's. Power to weight still f*cked him. Your alowed 125kw per tonne so an XR6turbo has to much power. For an estimation an xr6t is 1700kg so 1.7 x 125kw = 212kw's. If you get done mean cop you will get fined. My mate ended up selling his cause he got caught twice by the same cop and he was warned if he was caught again they would impound the car. Not worth the hassle mate. And with insurance you will not be covered because you are not supposed to be driving the car...... As soon as your doing somthing illegal insurance will tell you to piss off...
August 31, 200818 yr #12 The laws in Victoria have changed for P platers but the XR6T is not allowable regardless of when you got you P's. It sounds like you already have one - did you check up on this stuff first?Maybe I'm getting old but stuffed if I know how you guys buy these things and then ask questions later. I'd be worried about insurance, rego issues and then the ongoing "dont drive in area's that will bring to much attention to yourself". Where are these by the way?I understand the temptation to get into a T. You need to decide on whether it's worth all the hassles but just remember, sometimes on the road sh*t just happens. I'd be more comfortable knowing I'm not going to have anyone pull my insurance out from under me when I was knowingly doing something wrong. Good luck and keep the car straight!
August 31, 200818 yr #13 Hey Nath I was a p plater when I had my T and for the first 2 years I didnt have any problems until I got caught by the same coper twice in my area. He said that he'll impound the car if he see's me driving around in it again. Now I dont have 2 worry cause im off my p's but it all depends on the cop, some will let you off and some wont. Its just a risk that you take when driving it.
August 31, 200818 yr #14 Im still on my P's, (got my licence 5 days before restrictions kicked in) and kept the turbo badge on and I have never been randomly pulled over and only called into an RBT once (And god damn the lady copper was a little hotty! Ne one look out for here in the hills area in sydney) But back on topic, only do it if its legal for you and your can afford the insurance
September 1, 200818 yr #15 in vic? dont bother man. I got done in my vs clubsport that's a 5 litre 185kw got done for high powered when the new lawas come in even though I had had the car for 18months before the laws come in. $220 fine and 3 demerit points

I know they aint nothing special but still better then a v6 commy or somthing
September 1, 200818 yr #17 Fair enough mate - for what it's worth, I think you are asking the questions at the right time. If you decide to stick to what's legal, you'll have no issues, can drive around without any worries and then you can look at a T once you're off the P's. You may even be able to get into an FG by then!
September 2, 200818 yr #18 Hey Nathn,Look mate, do the legal option. And be careful in a GTS-T. There a pig in the wet.
September 2, 200818 yr #19 so pissed off about the new lawsall I want is an xr6t but then again, I probably would kill myself in it or even worsebest mate or missus riding with me...so in the end its for the goodstill gna get an xr6 though :D just not blown
September 2, 200818 yr #20 I know I am going to sound like and old fart but dont drive these things till you some good experience in another car. They are way too over powered stock for someone who just got there P's.There is no way you will have insurance on it and imagine writing off another car and the Turbo and not being insured.Say goodbye to $60Large as it will all have to come out of your pocket.Listen to people who have done stupid things before and learn from their mistakes not ones you make.Buy yourself a nice Non-turbo XR6 and enjoy it and save for a Turbo and buy yourself one hell of a 21st birthday present.Hope this helpsCheersJR
