I don't think varying paint quality on low to mid priced, mass produced cars is anything new. You'll always get some better than others.

If you want perfect paint buy a top end Merc, BMW, Ferrari, etc where they still layer and sand back multiple coats of 2 pac to get a perfect finish.

BMW is just as baad, their paint is crap.

Lexus paint is probably the best IMO.

So here come the cracks in Fords new flagship. Would hate to see such a thing widespread and detract from what is so far an impressive car.

Can't see how the paint is any different from that on the BA/BF considering some of the same colors are used in the exact same paint shop at Broadmeadows.

I remember when I bought my bf brand new and took it into the free 3000k service and complained about my paint problems..

I was told in a sarcastic way .. "its Ford.. what do expect for a $40k car.. its not a merc or a BM =p "

I did noticed its the same on most falcons on the boot and front bumper.

I presume that Ford are still using PPG 2K paint system though using a different application method than in the E series and AU series vehicles

that's about the same as my fathers BF XR6 turbo ute (white)

The white colours have quite alot of peel which some of it can be buried but only you I think possibly be able to sand peel out from a factory finish (I certainly won't do it)

What I have noticed from all the falcons I have detailed is this,

BA - base to XR models had medium to heavy OP

- GT had far less orange peel and a slightly thicker overall coating

BF - white's had a terrible pineapple peel look and slightly foggy reflection

- GT and Typhoon still better than the rest

Medium -Hard abrasion resistance when new, medium resistance after a few years of constant UV and heat exposure

Some of the BA to BF vehicles have a slightly grabby feel to them when machine polished though not as bad as the Japanese paints which suffer from Sticky clearcoat which needs more oils to be added to the surface prior to correction being done

The only good thing ford have done so far is put an inline 6 and a turbocharger together....

Brakes, suspension, diffs, transmissions and paint quality is average, but at the end of the day I still love my XR6!
