Buying An Xr6t: Ba Mkii Vs Bf?

Just on that note - here you say that the BF's are easier to detect an edit - so you saying that if FORD at a service hook the car up to their computers that there is a good chance they wotn see the car has had its computer modified??

Because the only reason I havent gone out and purchased an edit is that im under the impression that when they hook a computer up to the BF's it will stick out like dog balls that its been modified?

As long as you flash your car back to stock before taking it in, it is unlikely they will notice. On the BFs there is apparently more chance - they can see how many PSI achieved etc in logging. On any of the models if you start with eg tune 123 and then put your flasher on - it loads 123 into the standard position. Then you go back to Ford - they put 456 on, and you flash your modded tune, then back to standard, you will end up with 123 back on your ECU. Fords records can show that you should have 456. The assumption is you have flashed - not definate though.

As long as you dont blow things up - it is unlikely to ever be an issue. If you blow things up - it is your cost anyway being fair.

I say do it - enhoy your car much more.

Well, it's either April, May, or the very popular June '06 when the Better internals became standard - that's for sure.

Is there a way to "see" or check what a SH BF has before purchase?

Someone confirm all BFs have the bigger brakes?

There are some good deals on BAIIs these days. The BF is worth the extra money for someone who doesn't want to mod - opinions/reasons please.

I'll be going for a 6 speed manual.

Obviously it depends on mtce and how it's driven, but how long lived are these things? Would 100K km example still have another 100K km in it, do you think?

Is the 100K service a "biggie"

Sorry for so many Qs, thanks for any help.

Don't think you can know what rods it has without opening up the engine. Go late 06 or early 07 just to be sure.

If your not planning on modifying it at all then a low kay well looked after BA2 would be fine. IMO I would only buy a BA again if I wanted a particular colour or I loved the BA shape (which I do) over the BF. But it really depends on the condition of the car. There are modified BA's gettin up around the 200k now so a well looked after and regularly serviced stock one should be fine.

If you want to modify it the best base car in a post 06/06 BF. I think the 100k is a biggy too.

Hope that's helps a little.

Thanks mate, appreciate it.

With demo 2010 FGs going for $39K, it really must knock used prices around.

I'm trying to avoid the worst stage of depreciation. First two/four years?

Yeah around that, I bought my BA when it was three years old for around half price then sold it about a year later for roughly the same. Let some other poor sucker loose 10k for driving out of the showroom I say.spoton.gif

The only mechanical difference between BA II and BF really is the 5 kw from Variable Cam control. The BFs are easier to detect the edit.

The other differences are largely cosmetic, until later BFs that have better rods and valvesprings like the F6.

Just wondering about 06/06 Bf I knew it had same bottom end as F6 but wasnt sure about valve springs, can this be further supported, commented on, Thanks

f*ck I thought all DOHC I6's had Variable Cam Control. But I'm pretty sure they do have better springs as well.

Missing a key word there - independent.

BA they are variable, but only in sync with each other. On the BF the cams can be changed independently.

...or something like that

Oh Geez sorry, I didn't see "Independent" In any of those posts. And as you know, I know f*ck all so cut me some slack.

:roflmbo:

Was more aimed at cobrav8 as he brought it up, you were correct in regards to all the I6s having dual variable cams sweetheart.

Was just trying to help, you emo little c...
