Vagabond Member 9 Member For: 17y 3m 2d Posted 06/03/08 08:36 AM Share Posted 06/03/08 08:36 AM I'd only go with a manual... nothing like feeling that raw surge of power when you quickly downshift to speed up, say after a tighter bend ... I won't pretend to have driven the auto box, probably should... I just cant imagine how an auto box could do exactly what I want it to. Doesn't it sense when to change gears depending how how hard you push the throttle?Straight away I'd think... hey... what if I want to drive with a wide open throttle in fifth or sixth gear? *shrug*...I currently own a hyundai and if it weren't for the fact that its a manual I'd be so sick of it right now. Its just fun changing gears, haha...Each to their own ultimately. I guess we can only give our own opinions as to what we like and people such as the original poster have to consider their own circumstances! If you have not driven the zf auto, you cannot really comment - that's just my 2c worth. Instead of just relying on throttle position it will also base gear selection on speed, tilt and cornering force - as well as adjusting shift patterns to your driving style based on a 'score'.And then if all else fails flick it to the left and you've got something that is (in my opinion) as good as a manual with the tiptronic selector. In manual mode it will hold gears until you either stop or it senses trouble (will downshift under sudden acceleration).Still not everyone's cup of tea, but I guarantee you would be surprised with how clever the little suckers are. Two guys spun out because the gearbox decided to change down a gear. The other day I had a play with a GT V8 , when we stopped and talked, he said when I took of ....... he could not keep up as his car would not drop down to 3rd only 4th. I said why dont you change it manually. He said I did but I have to go from 5th to 4th to 3rd and by that time you were gone. I can select any gear I want. Sounds like these auto boxes are good, but have limitations and are not aimed at pure performance. Not to many auto boxes in the V8 supercars. Push the pedal past the detent and it has no qualms about dropping back a few gears provided it won't hit the rev limiter.I'd bet my car that I could go from 5th-4th-3rd in a ZF in the same time you could go from 5th-3rd in a manual The V8’s may not have auto’s but a fair chunk of them have gone sequential Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/43136-6-spd-man-or-auto/page/3/#findComment-643158 Share on other sites

But if all I'am intrested in is the 0-100 times and the 1/4 mile times what would be the fastest out of the 2 boxes ????
