Whilst there are some unthrashed examples around they are as rare as rocking horse poo! So its just a matter finding the least thrashed (ie newer) cars. Great cars though. As much as it pains me to say, the evo option would be hard to beat. Unreal package, just a shame its still a lancer! Edited 10/02/08 01:18 PM by Dagabond

Usually STI's are bought by older blokes with more money so more often then not they have been looked after and are only being sold to update. Also STI's have stronger parts so it's not AS expensive to up the boost safely compared to a normal WRX. After looking into it abit you really start to appreciate how cheap our T's are to mod and how well they take to modding.Spot on. My Brother bought a MY04 STI a few week's ago. He payed a premium for it, but the car was a one owner low kilometre example as opposed to the much cheaper WRX's of the same build year that just appeared too rough. In summary, STI's seem to be owned by more "careful" owner's.

I have been trying to convince him to go down the road of a STi, but he's not sure if he wants to spend that much. I said in the long run it could be cheaper. He hates the bug eyed look to, so that limits the 'non-thrashed' models. He's not going to mod it, if it has a few mods fine, but I doubt he will go much past body and wheels.Felix

IE in the old GC8's you could wind up a bleed valve to 17psi (dodgy but factory boost cut is 18psi)with a TBE and run low 13's all day long! The new ones throw up all sorts of ecu issues with CAI's let alone full exhausts etc. However they have some good "edit" options available. Verso, ecutek, link G3,. motec et alTell him to have a look at the evo's too

Or an STi WRX?If you mean just a WRXm then tell him not to bother, spend the extra $$$ and get an STi.The STi has far more/extra upgrades parts and bits such as forged engine internals, blue printed engine, better ECU, bigger brakes, ball bearing turbo, better suspension, nicer interior and exterior overall.I drove many WRX's and STi's and in the end bought the STi. A 1997 Version 4 STi and I can tell you they handle like on rails, engines are reliable (forged internals in STi) and gearboxes are built like a german brick sh!t house (5spd).I have never driven the new shaped WRX/STi's with the 6spd manual but I've heard they have the same "notchyness" as the 5spd. So your mate can expect the gearbox to be notchy so don't freak thinking its been given a thrashing. Listen for crunches and clunks.STi engines can take a fair amount of abuse, hense their great rally heritage.Just don't be expecting wonderful luxury out of the WRX or STi lol
