25/01/08 11:10 PM25/01/08 11:10 PM #21 As I see, it's not the language that's the problem but the fact so few people read (real books) these days. My 3 kids are all good readers and spellers. I have a sneaking suspicion it's because I used to read to them and encourage them to read. (Boy you heve two be careful with grammer & speling on this thred!)Every thing that's been said is quite true, however that it what makes English the language of great literature.
26/01/08 01:22 AM26/01/08 01:22 AM #22 I would have to agree with you regarding reading and kids. As a child I did a fair amount of reading probably up until I got my first car at 16 but I have been reading quite a bit lately having finished 3 books in the past two months which for me is a lot. I don't honestly know why I ever stopped to tell you the truth. It's good stuff[tm]. Not only does it promote the use of your imagination (which with computer games, consoles and the like kids tend to not do what we used to as kids..ya know, playing outside all the time ), it also increases vocabulary.
26/01/08 01:39 AM26/01/08 01:39 AM #23 changing the english language would be a logistical and financial nightmare... Llook what happened when the "SACKED PLUTO" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's cost billions.

I ownly did my grayd nyne coz I thort da eguish langwidge twas a bit phuked up and noe pont wen mi ritting is phully undystandible. BTW mayt nife duz not hav a K in it.How much time and money is wasted daily by spelling errors and similar issues? How much easier would it be for schoolkids and migrants?Call me crazy, but I might write to Ruddo and get him to write to Bush and Brown and other English-speaking PMs to get English fixed. There are so many words that could be simplified. Why does POT rhyme with WHAT and yet the spelling isnt similar. Why does knife have a K?Why is the word abbreviation so long????????????????Why on earth do we sometimes use PH instead of F such as in phone?I'm thinking of these examples off the top of my head, Im sure there are worse words out there.
26/01/08 02:18 AM26/01/08 02:18 AM #25 And you don't by using the wrong "their"? Are you sure that you didn't mean, "they're"?And I am sure that you meant to type "spelled", right?I am not having a dig at you two really. I am just using you two to reinforce the point of the original post. I don't think it matters how it's 'spelled' ... I was under the impression that spelt or spelled were both correct, and can both be used. But either way, after a night shift I think I can be excused if it is wrong Next you'll be telling me that colour doesn't have a 'u' in it, and that my mothers day cards should read dear mom
