What are some good audio installers in Vic? I would prefer actual experiences rather than just word of mouth. Also if anyone has gone somewhere and had a bad experience could you let me know.

Cheers

Dillon

P.S. Mods I think this thread would be more useful in the VIC section as there is to many threads in the Audio Workshop and it's hard to find stuff.

Hey Dillon, I would highly recommend Freeway Car Audio (FCA). They did the install in the old car, and it was by far the best. My mates had installs from JB, autobahn etc... and the level of detail FCA went to was awsome. They basically rewired the whole stereo system including speaker wires, all the cables were wither hidden or wraped in black so you couldnt even tell it was there. I hated ripping it all out, to put it into the T. They also know what they're talkin aout too. They are however, a bit pricy, but you get what you pay for....

They're on Princess Hwy, next to Coffey Ford, the orange building, cant miss it

Also places not to go: JB HI-FI Dandenong. I've had a few things installed by them... They pretty much just want to get the install done as fast as possible, so they can get the next car in.. Also I've heard a few bad things about the guy that actually does the installs... His workmanship aint the best, lets just say that..

:tease:

Freeway did some stuff in my VR calais. Did a great job :spoton:

I went to JB in dandy when I had my XY falcon & they butchered the car putting in the head unit & woofer. Glad I put speakers in the parcel shelf, cause I would hate to see how much they would have butchered that part

Stylyn Car Audio in Boronia did my setup in my SLE.

They do great work, heaps of show cars and even do motor trimming I think so the finish they do is exceptional.

Are you talking about the Lebo guy with the goaty?

He seemed to be an alright guy when I was getting quotes there, helped me out heaps and seemed to know what he was talking about.

I actually plan to get my audio gear installed there.. :spoton: I hope you're not right.

I haven't had any work done personally by FCA but I did audition some MB's that where insatlled in a customers BA with premium sound. The front splits where installed out of phase and the dude couldn't work out that the "compression" setting was on. I didn't know that the factory premium had such a setting but my ears where telling me there was obvious compression a-happening. The dude found it after I said it sounded very compressed. I steered clear from them.

I ended up going to Audiobarn in Moorabin initially because their prices where very good. I ended up getting them to do the install as well. They did front splits, 2 amps, large crossovers and a subby. I booked the car in for a Monday and dropped it off at 9ish. They called at 3pm to tell me they didn't get a chance to start it because another customers car took longer than expected ( I did get a 50 dollar refund, so that is something). Rebooked it for a Friday which gave them a bit more time. I rocked up at 11. The installer went to have a look in the front passenger side and took a small chip out of my door when he hit the side of the building. Get a call at at around 3 to tell me that a tweeter mount was missing and that they'd have to get one in. Get a call at 6ish where I was informed they'd need the car the next day for a few more hours to "finish" the job. Rocked up the next day and the system wasn't tuned.

I also didn't like:

  1. Filthy finger prints all over the headlining and A pillars
  2. Tweeter wire from under the dash hangs down
  3. Subwoofer was mounted in a different position without consultation
  4. Subwoofer mounter poorly - used self adhesive Velcro that came off very easily
  5. Subwoofer amp mounted in different (and poor) position without consultation
  6. Crossovers under drivers seat mounted too far back
  7. More than 2 weeks and still haven't been contacted about the tweeter mount

Things I did like:

  1. Spent time discussing possibilities (yeah, the possibility that they might finish the job before the 2009)
  2. Board used to mount boot in amp is very neat
  3. Good job dyomatting the doors
  4. Very good prices

I can't recommend them for installs but definitely give them a thumbs up for pricing.

Another Vote for Freeway Car Audio, I had 2 systems done at the Malvern store, great work, and after sales service.

I went for the stealth approach, my previous car looked completely standard, apart from the Focal Lettering on the Carpeted panel that concealed the Sub in the boot.

Yeah Eli or Ali is his name, while I was talkin to him 2 guys rocked up with problems with installs from him.. On guy in a pretty hot WRX his aftermarket alarm kept goin off, and another guy's stereo kept cutting out., he was almost fin mine at the time so I couldnt back out...

I had an LC6 installed with 2 type r subs, 2 amps and a capacitor fitted... He messed with all settings, and at the time with the volume on 3 you could barely have a convo with the person next to you.. Personally I wouldnt go there for installs, but they are cheap!
