New Cat

I jumped into my car the other day and noticed it was running like a dog felt very restrictive under throttle and very little boost . So after work went to Ford to book it in to be looked at the next day.They ring and say that they can't find anything but say their is definetly a problem but not sure what.So I spoke to my old man who used to be a mechanic knows nothing about turbos just the old v8 and he said sounds like the cat. I get on the phone and speak to the guy at ford to see what they think he says he will take it for a test drive and have another feel. So he calls back and says that it's definetly the cat and that for a new one it will be $1250 for a stock one told him not to touch the car I will come and pick it up.Phoned around and got a hi-flow cat fitted for $400 which seems to be heaps better but I have noticed that the boost is a little slower to kick in but when it does the car fells so much more powerful. The car is stock just the usual cai and now cat.

I'm not sure about when your running the stock tune, but I thought that changing the cat or intercooler can possibly lead to overboosting?

Possible it can, but all depends on how free flowing it is.

I had overboosting before due to kinked wastegate hose where it was going to 15 psi but it only go to the usual 6 psi at the moment.But the turbo will kick in nice and smooth till about 3psi and then just launches and stickes to about 5-6 psi.

why didnt they replace it under warranty and did you get a metal internal cat because with ceramic it could possibly do the same thing again.

Possible it can, but all depends on how free flowing it is.

The car is out of warrenty and it's a stainless steel cat.Went back to ask the guy weather it would have overboost said that because it still has the stock exhaust that will stop it from overboosting. The car is definetly alot better then when I bought 2y ago and sounds awsome.

Any experience or opinions on whether a 4.5" bodied cat, 100 cell would overboost on a otherwise stock T ? Or would running a 200 cell help reduce this happening???
