19/11/07 11:24 AM19/11/07 11:24 AM #1 G'day all,I just upgraded brakes on my BA MkI XR6T Ute to a package the same as this but I got it a lot less than this asking price.http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FALCON-BA-BF-330mm-...1QQcmdZViewItemBefore and After fitting this kit I had a spongy pedal, I am a service mechanic so I have bleed the brakes about 3 times. Twice on stock set up and Once on this set up and I still have crappy pedal feel. The car pulls up grate and the ABS still works when needed so I'm guessing its not air in the lines, but when the car is stopped I can push the pedal to the floor.I've also made sure the front caliper bleed valve is at the top by moving the caliper off the mounts and it doesn't seem to help. I've also blocked off all 4 lines before going braided and I still had the spongy pedal. So this is leading me to the question of how many people have suffered Master Cylinder failures or spongy master cylinders in there T's? I've also done a search and gone through all that is on this forum about: brakes, bleeding, master cylinder and so on. All helpfully comments please people.cheers Dave Edited 19/11/07 11:27 AM19/11/07 11:27 AM by R31_IceMan
19/11/07 11:28 AM19/11/07 11:28 AM #2 hey mate, have you ahd the rear brake lines replaced? there was a campaign on that for everything before BF I think. If not it could have something to do with the lines, they were apparantly too short and had problems, apart from that, I can't say I've heard of the master cylinder failing...
19/11/07 11:42 AM19/11/07 11:42 AM #3 Wouldn't be surprised if you still had air in your brake lines but could be wrong.Last two times I have done brake mods or repairs I have had to pump 1.2 litres of brake fluid through due to the rear brake lines under the tray holding air.The drivers side rear line is mounted fairly high.
21/11/07 07:14 AM21/11/07 07:14 AM #5 Author The rear brakes are still stock. Never had a problem with them. Have changed pads and rotors in the rear but never detached the lines. When I did the fronts I also made sure that the fluid was free flowing before starting to bleed the brakes. My only other thought is has anyone had problems with the booster? 21/11/07 11:06 AM21/11/07 11:06 AM #6 ford have a recall for the rear brake lines, get them checked, see if this needs to be done, have you inspected the master cylinder yourself? anyvisible signs of a fault?
21/11/07 01:21 PM21/11/07 01:21 PM #7 I think I know what you are talking about. I have a low and spongy pedal in a BA Fairmont. I had the rear brake line replaced and it did help but just a little but Ford never could rectify it along with a slight vibration at 95 KPH. I then hopped into another 2004 BA Fairmont to compare back to back. Its brake pedal was as it should be so they do vary for some reason.
