02/10/07 06:05 AM02/10/07 06:05 AM #21 you know, this is a tough decision for me, because I don't want johnny in cos costello is next in-line, but the other major option is for K-Rudd! inexperienced and playing to the mob is not what leaders are made of, if I see peter costello with some sort of backbone in a public arena, I'll vote liberal, on the hand, I might just vote for the "free marajuana" party and have a good old laugh!

Tell the people exactly what they want to hear to get yourself elected then once your in, the chains come off. I'm too young to fully remember the billion dollar dept we had and 13+% interests rates but I know now that I don't want it to happen again, that's for sure.

02/10/07 07:22 AM02/10/07 07:22 AM #25 I just haven't seen costello talk about anything seriously, apart from budgets. I don't generally have a tv at hand when question time is on, but from the ones I have seen, he know his stuff about the budget, but what else does he know, stupid jokes that only he and a couple of back-benchers laugh at? I honestly beleive you need more than just money smarts to run a country, you need street smarts also, something I haven't seen from costello

I believe he'll be an excellent leader.Do you think the C.E.O. of a company actually runs the company? its the C.F.O's of the world that make the big decisions.

02/10/07 09:33 AM02/10/07 09:33 AM #29 yes and no, I can appreciate the economy side of, but would you let a ferret faced accountant kiss your baby? Public opinion has a lot to do with the decision, costello is a great treasurer, but if he is prime minister, he's not treasurer, what is he like with hospitals, foreign policy and the struggles in rural australia, these are the problems that will test any new leader, and unfortunately there will never be the right one...the lesser of two evils...

I'll give you an example of this... I lived in rural australia for most of my life, 16 years in total. We had a new road put in at the end of our street, and they just did the bitumen not the gutters and put the bitumen against the dirt - was going to look sh*t. Dad rung the council and spoke to somebody there and said it was going to look sh*t and could they do the gutters as well. a few days later they fixed it all. If we amalgamate the councils country people cant do this, they have to phone a 1300 number and wait on hold or whatever, and probably drive 4 hours just to voice their opinion. People live in the country because its personal, they dont want that kind of rubbish.the problem with the hospitals is the hospitals themselves, not the federal politicians, even with a change of government we still end up with the same hospital management / staff - the whole system has to change, which definately wont happen with a labour federal government, it will just get slower and more painful for everybody.Howard announced today I think he wants to appoint a C.E.O. for every hospital, making them accountable for problems, I think that's a great idea, run it like a business, loose the government lazyness, if private business had the money government departments had...
