New Brakes

Sorry to go slightly off topic and hijack this thread but are there any decent brake packages out there that will fit under the standard BF 17" rims?

I have the Premium brakes on mine from the factory and the pedel feels fine! Falcoon, I will give you a drive of mine next time you are up here and you can compare the brakes.

I have replaced the front rotors with the DBA 4000s in the front and am running the Benedix Ultimates, standard brake lines. I stop from 125mph @ WSID without any dramas.

The setup works well and is good for 2 - 3 hard hits within a short time. I think that this is good enough for street and drag use. The only problem is that the DBA 4000's are starting to crack! I can see some hairline cracks on the outer edge of the slotted grooves. I will as the guys at Tunehouse to ask DBA about these ...

I recently drove a XR6T with the standard brakes and think that these brakes on such a car are dangerous!! I would recommend the Premium/PBR upgrade as a minimum on these cars.

My personal preference to modifying cars ... 1. Brakes 2. Suspension 3. Then Power upgrades !!

I've got the same setup as you are proposing (except I have DBA 4000 not 5000 rotors) and found the brake pedal to be slightly lower than before. Interesting to see if you get this too. Local brake shop I talked to said this was to do with the size of the pistons in the rear calipers. I haven't driven a BF or Territory to compare pedal height to mine. I briefly drove Phil's (Lord Cyric) car with the PBR aftermarket upgrade (same as BA Premo) and found his pedal was excellent.

I just fitted the PBR upgrade fronts to my car and fitted the bigger PBR for the rear (330mm) and I find the pedal sinking a lot lower than before, feels a lot softer as well but the car still stops, just a different feeling. I think there is some air in it as well but my mechanic thinks it has to do with the size of the new calliper.

Factory PBR (Premium) setup has normal pedal position. The pedal feel is fully solid with essentially no perception of compliance. This enables exceptional ability to first apply and thence modulate braking effort. It is trivial to take say Dunlop Sports Maxx 17" tyres for example, immediately to the point of lockup and then to easily modualte pedal force to asctivate ABS, or not, and as and when required.

The fact that you have compliance in your system suggest that something is wrong. If I recall correctly, low expansion hoses were supposed to be a part of the Premium Brake/PBR upgrade package.

I did fit PBR braided hoses to the front wheels but the rear got new rubber hoses from ford ( the longer ones). I will get the system bleed again and the pads need to beed in as well.

I had the same problem but it is fixed now. A rear brake hose was twisted on mine which may of had an effect on things.

Also there is a sequence in which you are supposed to bleed the brakes - LHR>RHR>LHF>RHFBAFittingInstructions_PL726_1_.pdf

Refer to Page 6 Step 9 on the following fitting instructions for bleeding

the calipers on the performance kits.

On the BA's the front caliper may need to be tilted forward so the bleeder

is verticle. This allows the air to be bleed out correctly.

When fitting the new rear calipers, you may have mistakenly put them on the

incorrect sides. (Easy to do)

A quick way of checking this is to see if the bleeder screws are at the

tops of the calipers.

Just received the BF rear brake setup, and boy they are BIG compared to the BA ones.

Now to match the colour of the red front calipers so that they colour match

Expect the see the DBA 5000 front setup tomorrow or Friday

The callipers are the right way around, we just didnt do the front upright so we can take all the air out. Well try to do that next time I go to the mechanic workshop.

Thanks for the instructions, it should get rid of the soft pedal feel.

Photos of the BF rear setup compared to the BA (picture is of AU II rear brakes, but BA is not much bigger 287 mm vs 303 mm).

The BF rear discs are 328 mm and ventilated, and the pads are wider, and the caliper is obviously much bigger as well, though only single piston still.

Aluminium parts of the calipers will be painted RED before fitting
