Paradoxx Colossal Member Member 5,049 Member For: 22y 1m 14d Gender: Male Location: Perth, WA Posted 11/07/07 09:23 AM Posted 11/07/07 09:23 AM That is your knock sensor retarding the timing because it is leaning the engine out... put it this way when you accelerate, the fuel in your tank has to "catch up" and collect at the rear of the tank. This can mean the pickup isn't completely covered by fuel and can suck air, causing your engine to run lean. If you do this for too long watch out for the big BANG!It happens to most cars and can be overcome by having a surge tank, but this is a fairly big job to install. Just make sure your tank is at least 1/2 full when you decide to boot it

O2STOCK Legacy Donating Member 607 Member For: 21y 24d Location: Brisbane Posted 11/07/07 10:30 AM Posted 11/07/07 10:30 AM (edited) Is the car modified ?If not then the fuel pump could need replacing, as a standard car should run down to empty with out surging to this levelIf it is modified and a standard pump is used then the amount of fuel left in the factory swirl pot in side the tank at low levels is not enough (Demand out strips supply). As the car accelerates (Swirl pot is at the front of the tank) fuel is pushed to the back of the tank and the pump starves for a short period, as there is not enough reserve in the stock system for the increased demand.In this case upgrade to a surge tank.
