Some sort of adjustable boost control is worth having, manual or electric, its good to be able to drop the boost right down for the missus or raining weather

Spent the last week driving around in a friends ~460 rwhp XR6T M6, whilst a bit of fun it would have been much more drivable if it was an auto.

I've had generic tunes for a couple of months. I haven't dynoed them but others get 220rwkws with 8psi and 230 odd with 10psi or maybe a little more. With street tyres there is not that much left before wheelspin becomes an issue. I'm only going to go to around 280rwkws and have a tune to go back to on rainy days, maybe 200rwkws or similar to standard and another one in between. Things should stay together at this level.

all good in theory, to have a tune to go back to if it rains.. but trust me, when it does rain, I doubt you'd be f*cked sitting there 5mins changing the tune (perhaps I'm ultimate lazy though :spoton: ), just because the road is wet. They're fine in the wet, provided you don't floor it. It's just a matter of altering your driving slightly...

You could consider a turbosmart eboost 2 controller. The car is tuned to the top boost level, but you have 2-5 other boost settings with lower maps for the mrs or rainy days. I run at 17psi, 10 and 8psi maps and they can be changed instantly.

IMO 500rwhp is a good power level for a 6cyl street driven turbo car. You can run one Bosch 044 pump, injector size is not too bad for drivability and economy, turbo does not need to be that big as to induce too much lag and you just have to run stock cams.

Once you start running 2 bosch pumps (a few do when they dont really need to), huge injectors which sacrifice idle quality and economy and lumpy cams then that's detracts from drivability.

A good gearbox/cluch torque converter solution is available up to 500ATW but once you go over it starts getting harder.

There are some good sticky tyres out there now that cope OK on 500ATWs also.

Just learn to cope with the power in small steps as it can bite you in the bum when you least expect it as a few on this forum have already learnt.

Good topic daniel :spit:

we should get a good read from this!

I plan to do mine in stages. I know they have been 1 month stages so far :bsflag: but I wont be getting a cat for a bit.. but my next upgrade is defineatly a clutch & then some pretty brake discs & pads.

I am just puzzled as to why people have said an auto is better for cars with 300-350? obviously u can blast 99.5% of cars on the streets off at the lights, but the reason I didnt get an auto is because the idea of "kicking down" a gear with a powerful car scared the poop outa me. If its a manual you know what gear you are in all the time.
