I bought an 03 XR6 Turbo about three months ago, awsome car but I'm having serious concerns about it's fuel consumption. I believe it's very thirsty and at times when I fire her up it's got 20 or so kms less on the range and it hasn't even moved! Does anyone else suffer this problem and what sort of km's are you getting to a full take? can I do anything to fix this?, any feedback would be great thanks.

I only had mine for a week before the tune. But was getting around 400km around town and probably 550 on the highway. Hoping for better with the tune but its all been foot down for now. The above results was with speed limit driving. Crusing around at 60 km it should be telling you about 8L per 100 consumption.

Yeah I get about 440 but I don't see 60km/h much, let me know you go with the tune

If you are getting the type of range indicated in the posts above you car is probably running normally.

You can do better but it depends on the way you drive and the traffic conditions. On the highway at 100kph using cruise control to moderate acceleration, you will easily get better economy than 10l/100km even with a fully loaded car.

If your brake system consumables last 15K and your tyres even less expect fuel economy of the same order.

These cars are deceptively quick because they are smooth and the torque curve is high and flat. There is engine little frenzy to generate a sensation of speed. Try driving off smoothly from a set of lights using boost rather than engine revs to accelerate the car then check to see the rest of the traffic 200m behind you… the point is that your acceleration (and fuel consumption) is more than you perceive it to be as the engine revs are generally low and the engine is inherently refined.

The DTE calculation is a prediction made from an average of the fuel economy experienced in the previous 10 minutes of operation, I think (check the manual).

The warm up mode of the car runs rich which affects the DTE prediction.

Regards,

aa

Sounds like you need a good tune. My performance tunes give better economy than the factory tune. Even when flogged the custom tunes are better than the factory tune.

IMO u bought the wrong car to be worried about your fuel usage... From what I've read your usage is normal... These cars are heavy and powerful.. not the right combination for great fuel economy.... When I first bought mine I was given it heaps.. I was gettin 17L/100k's.. Now edited and over the 'power' (not flooring it everywhere) I'm gettin high 14L/100k's wich I think is sweet... My friend in his supercharged VY calais is gettin 16L/100k's he babies it around and has about half the power I have... go figure!

Yeah power and fuel economy rarly are in the same sentence, can anyone suggest a good mechanic in melbourne for tuning/perfomance upgrages?
