Hey, I was driving passed one of those police road side speed thingy's that show your speed. Anyway I was doing exactly 55km on the speedo on cruise control but the sign said I was doing 48km.

I went back for a second time and same thing.

Is this normal? or is my speedo out?

Seems a bit too much inaccuracy there. I would expect 50-52km from an indicated 55km. Do you run non stock wheels or tyres ?

When I run my car at 100km/h the satnav says 96km/h. This has also been confirmed by the roadside speed advisories.

Those road side testers are only an indicator and not 100% accurate.

Your cars speedo can be within 10% of actual speed to be normal and acceptable.

A dyno can give you an exact speedo reading Vs actual speed

yeh there way off the mark, theres one that's been here locally for weeks and with my cruise set to 60 it varies between 55-85 with no other traffic.. makes ya wonder how accurate their revenue raising devices are

There was something on A Current Affair I think it was a week or 2 ago where they showed a university study which proved that there speed guns are inaccurate. From memory they wanted to take it further and they said that if they can take it further the police may be forced to pay back fines.

Yeah I saw that too. I hope that they do end up winning the case they were talking about!
