May 26, 200323 yr #1 Heres a link from Carpoint http://carpoint.ninemsn.com.au/news/story.asp?ID=4986 Interesting but the last Paragraph is going to create a stir!Ties in with the V8 Supercars thread
May 26, 200323 yr #2 Go the turbo Just confirms what we already knew - the new XR range is drawing buyers away from other car makers. Well done Ford
May 26, 200323 yr #4 Mitsubishi have been muttering for a while about dropping a V8 into a Magna. Could be interesting - AWD V8. Not sure if this would qualify them for V8 Supercars though.... Toyota have the Lexus (4.0lt?) V8 engine that they could use in Camry or other new model if they wanted. I can't believe that Toyota actually sell those Sportivos. They look crap IMO.
May 26, 200323 yr #5 I can't believe that Toyota actually sell those Sportivos. They look crap IMO. all the camry's look crap, especially the interior. yuk. but each to their own
May 26, 200323 yr #6 Sportivo (Think of something nice).....They're quiet !Magna Only decent things to come out of South Australia are......ME!!and Grange Hermatige :D
May 26, 200323 yr #7 Magnas and Commodores on the same track. Couldn't tell the differance from behind. As for the Camry, could you really take it seriously? Would Toyota really redesign the Camry with a V8 just for aussie? Not in my opinion. I could be wrong and in a way I hope I am. Would be great to see old men and mums doing burnouts at the supermarket.
May 26, 200323 yr #8 I can't believe that Toyota actually sell those Sportivos. They look crap IMO.all the camry's look crap, especially the interior. yuk. but each to their own My wife has the new V6 Sportivo and she loves it...In my opinion it is underpowered, but the handling is OK, the space is excellent (much better boot then the XR and more spacious inside) and is not too badly priced. (I wouldnt want one for my car though...)
May 26, 200323 yr #10 Who's missing the point here? Unless AVESCO change some major rules I don't see any Jap makers running a car - where are they to source a V8 pushrod engine of 5.0l capacity? Or will they spend millions developing "new" a 40 year old design engine just to have a presence in the V8 Supercar series? There may well be, somewhere in the future, a formula in which Toyota, Mitsubishi, Expensive Daewoo and Ford will be racing V8s against each other but it won't be the formula we have in place now.Furthermore, they have the GTP class already - why introduce another style of racing?
