I don't think it's good enough really. Quite simply if local manufacturers can't produce a car with the required tolerences and quality, they shouldn't be building cars. Australians shouldn't have to grin and bare these sorts of disasters. The funny thing is that people still buy the cars anyway, no matter how crap they are. We've all heard about the gen 3's and their component failure rate (I believe it has improved over time), my boss had a 255 clubsport which needed rebuilding after 50k, and he still raves about how good it is, and he'll never drive a ford (he's never driven one, like many other Expensive Daewoo die hards I'm sure). And on the flip side, the falcon boot floor is just rubbish, a 19k focus has a beter boot. The local manufacturers should think themselves lucky there are so many patrionic Australians, and people have such great brand loyalty. My answer to the problem in future will be buy a quality car irrespective of brand/origin and I'm sure that this is what many others will or are already doing (corrolla is aus's most popular car, a sign of what lies ahead perhaps).

Both manufacturers are just as bad as each other when it comes to build quality and service.

Expensive Daewoo however seem to have a better wrap at the moment.

I hope that one day the government abolishes all the tax's, excises, etc.. on imported cars so the local manufacturers have no choice but to pick up their game.

It seems the only decently built cars in this country are coming from Europe and Japan.

Getting back to the WonderBra - there's a new one just been released called the "Sheepdog". Apparently it rounds them up and points them in the right direction.

As for the content of ACA, it's best to turn to Fox Sports 1, 2 or 3. At least the subject repetitions are limited.

We DO need lemon laws though. Can you imagine how bad it would be to have your brand new car half disassembled and new bits put in...regularly?

We need laws like the US...if its off the road X many days in the first year or two, then you have the right to demand a new replacement car or a full refund.

Hey dont forget the prices the US get. We get ripped off, all in the name of protecting the jobs of a few thousand people in our local car industry.

You can buy a new BMW M3 in the US for AUD$81k. And a V10 M5 for $105k. Here....$150k and $220+K! And per capita we are the biggest buyers of BMW's outside of germany....they should be low prices we get!

Great stuff I say. I bought one of their first HSV Clubbies and had nothing but trouble. The warranty was like the classic 20/20: 20 feet down the road or 20 seconds after you drive away. It was like extracting teeth trying to get anything fixed. If that happened to me again I would go to TT or ACA as well. They need to get their customer service act togeather, job losses would be bad but GM Expensive Daewoo and HSV have rested on their laurels for far to long.

Any fool could have seen that spending a billion dollars on an apparent brand new car and not changing the engine was going to be an eventual disaster

Sure cars get teething problems but at least Ford will back their product fairly.

I'm in the US at the moment and I can tell you except for maybe the new GT Mustang and the new Vette our cars, Holdens included, are light years ahead in quality and design.

American cars are well known for their shocking build quality, and yes ours are well ahead of theirs, but only becuase of partnerships with Japanese manufacturers have they been able to improve.

But, comparing us to the US cars is pointless. Their representation here is minimal, the Ausie cars have to compete with Japanese and Euros which are far superior.

I have to admit, Expensive Daewoo tends to have a worse track record and their warranty attitude is hopeless (the old man had a VR Senator and it was like pulling teeth to get things fixed, paint, brakes, suspension, trims), but the Ford quality is still lacking.

Don't forget, all manufacturers that sell in Australia employ Australians. In all cases, their profits go overseas to parent companies..
