Erm..it's a mouse. What drivers would you need to be interactive? No, I do not care for mice that have 8 buttons. Five will suffice (left, right, mouse 3 and two for wheel).

I agree, it is the best choice if you happen to be a yuppie chick that is only interested in shiny things

fwiw, I dropped Vista on a Raptor and it's bloody quick.. I'm back on XP coz it still does some things Vista won't and it's a pain swapping and changing.. I'll go back to Vista though, when it's a bit better sorted and those DX10 cards drop a heap of coin!!!

I think Vista is ok, but agreed, there are no drivers for some apps and I hate WM11 taking over my sharing etc..

ha ha. I haven't used Linux in 5 years and have no intention of using it again.

Vista loads faster than XP and runs one or to apps faster, but many run upto 40% slower. There are no drivers for even simple peripherals like logitech mice yet.

If anybody can see $12billion US worth of improvement over XP spell it out loud and clear.

First release. So after 6 years of development you still think it's a first release and still should be unfinished. it's pretty pathetic that you should wait for nearly 12 months before the SP1 comes out to have complete driver support.

There is ZERO reason to upgrade to this product this year, unless you really want to play Crysis or Unreal 3 and that's deliberate cynical ploy by Microsoft to force upgrade, given how big gaming is today.

I'm sure after SP1 is released it will be a decent product and driver improvements will see it's performance increase a lot, but it still has no compelling reason to demand an upgrade to it, unless you enjoy DRM.

That’s like expecting a new car to roll of the production line without any faults. And how many millions and years are ‘wasted’ on new models?

Across the board an upgrade on existing systems probably wouldn’t be ideal, but there are a lot of users out there that would be able to make use of the new features if they have relatively new hardware. In a business sense we are looking at changing most of our workstations and laptops across for the new features that are available. And any new PCs will of course be with OEM Vista.

So yep - massive waste of money in development there. I don’t think the any of the above would apply to anyone else in the world

Given the absolutely long beta time and constant release dates been moved I'd hope for something very nice and polished…

One of the guys at work reads quite a few hacking forums, they have already started posting up bugs which get around vista’s security (and their licensing programs), we tested them on the copy we had at work and they where sure enough there...

So much for it been bullet proof…

That said APC recently published a top 10 reasons list on why we should upgrade, number 10 is a corker

Happened to be buying a new PC as Vista was launched, so purchased it with Ultimate. Had the same problem with my Optus Broadband connection as Adam (Optus - not supporting Vista at all until some time around March).

My Logitech webcam doesn't work, and the Logitech site says not Vista compatible, and my 6 year old Sony Handicam software won't run either.

The file sharing is taking some sorting out as well.

Still, having said that, everything else works, and it's very quick indeed.

Funny that they still give u the option of 'Classic' (read - usefull) in many places.

Valid point, but tie it back the vehicle production line analogy. How many millions and years is it taking Ford to produce the Orion, and is it likely that every vehicle will be perfect? It would be nice, but extremely unlikely.

I just can’t understand all the ranting about this topic every time a new release is pumped out. That’s the way it is, deal with it.

Yeah....get a mac and run Mac OS X (which is about 3 years ahead of Vista anyway with a new Mac OS 10.5 coming very soon) or Windows. One computer, many operating systems.

Except if you want to have full access to the worlds best hardware and software, FORGET ABOUT THE MAC.

Lets face it, you simply can not go out there, find some of the awesome hardware and software that's available, and be sure it will work on a Mac. It simply is not that easy.

With Windows it is...well at least for XP...it will be once hw and sw makers get their acts together and get their drivers up to speed!

Macs are sure pretty. They are good for normal basic stuff, but if you want the computing world at your fingertips and dont want to rely on a bunch of copies of the proper apps or often-half-baked open source apps, then you really must go windows.

Hopefully that will change soon, but first it will need Apple to stop being so greedy and proprietary. Open up their systems to run on any hardware for a start. Its easy to make something run well if you dont let people add whatever they want to the mix.

I have OS X running on my normal PC as a 3rd boot option so its not like its hard for them to do it.

They are doing the same with the apple iPhone - you will not be allowed to run 3rd party apps on it. that's crap.

Not quite true, when MS release something good they really do it well. The problem is this time they haven't released anything overly special and certainlly not something worth the $600 to $700 price tag for the "full version"

I just got Vista Ultimate. $250 OEM from MSY. All I had to do was have them look up on their system that I had purchased hardware from them in the last 12 months. Cant complain for the pirce.
