What car was yours on the cruise mate?

Id be getting it onto a dyno at one of the better tunes shops rather than taking advise from here.

You'll get heaps of great advice and gain knowledge from this site, but issues like this are for the pros to see/fix in the shop, not at the keyboard

Funny you say about the noise as when I went from the RDP Computer to only the edit I had a similar problem with the noise but I haven't had it dynoed as its a generic tune and not from capa.

My noise under throttle is more like a swooshing noise on and off from 3k to redline, the only way for me to describe it is like the independant rear noise on some cars which is more like a warped brake rotor!

the sound goes (wait for it...) SH SH SH SH SH SH.

Dont laugh as short of taping it which I dont have the equipment I cant describe it any other way.

Oh, and the mods I have are PWR cooler, Eugene injectors, high flow cat and k&n filter.

Cheers,

Brett

Gday all Im new to the forum. Some might have seen my red xr6t on the last cruise down the old putty road. My turbo seems to be making a fluttering noise between 3 and 4 grand especially noticable in 4, 5 and sixth gear. Ive been told that the power which my car is making is too much for the wastegate / actuator set up which is standard. Is this a common problem? My car makes 360rwkw. Any help on problem would be great. :spoton:

Id be going for wastegate issues straight up, what kind of boost are you running to attain those rear wheel kw figures, that's phenominal, A friends car is making the same noise, it had a custom edit 10psi edit done, then since the tune has fitted AVO cooler, 4inch dump, high flow car, and exhaust. It requires a retune as it is overboosting, Ive heard of this problem few times after exhaust/cat mods, and Ive seen cars that have a had a edit for 10psi, then the mods were done and the car was overboosting like no tomorrow, something around 16-18psi from memory, this is no good for standard rods in any model and If you have a mk1 like I do its even worse. Id be getting you car looked at asap mate, Im pretty conservative and would run about only 10-12psi. A few guys will agree, and a few wont but theres no point making bulk horsies that arent reliable unless you have a huge wallet.

Good luck mate

Cheers

Yeah my car was the red BA MK11 6 sp man. I have a custom tune running 14 psi boost, and the fluttering noise sounds like sh sh sh from 3 to 4.5 grand.

The car does feel like its making big power but feels a little sluggish between 3 to 4.5 after that it goes like a rocket. I have a 4inch dump pipe off the turbo into twin 2 3/4 all the way, I also have a pwr cooler so the car probably is over boosting.

Would have been nice if the tuner had of told me about this so now I have to fork out an extra $800 for another tune plus parts and fitting expenses.

I live in the inner west of Sydney

G'day mate, I Have the same mods as you and am also awaiting a retune, my car is making the exhaust same noise. Only started doing it since I fitted the cat and 4"dump. Ive been told its a wastegat issure and is easily fixed witha new actuator.

Cheeers

Thanks for the info fellas as this clears it up for me now. Would changing the actuator spring to 8-10psi fix this or would the full mod be better?
